The green ringer is one of my favorite pedals of all time. For years I played in a band where it was the only device between my guitar and my amp.
This variation is the @DGWVI special (build report for that one here). 5817s for the diodes, 5087 for Q2, 10K pot for R4. One may call these knobs VOL and GAIN, but I think BIAS and ATTN might be more appropriate.
I did have a tricky situation to work around. I used the footswitch breakout board and pin headers to mount the PCB since it has no controls to hold it in place. But I forgot to leave the OUT pad blank because I added an attenuation control. I really didn’t want to booger up all the meticulous wire-bending. I was able to get the tip of my tiny wire clippers in there to snip that pin and pull the top half out.
Overall, very happy with this. I love the nasty new tones I’m getting. If I was going to change anything, I would do one of two things.
- Use a C taper for the BIAS to uncrowd the final travel of the pot.
- I like the range of tones, but there’s one spot where the octave is the strongest. Maybe I could do bias like the holy grit (PPCB Sandblaster) and have a switch with three trimmers for “presets” instead of the BIAS pot.
