I'm still relatively new to the pedal-building hobby, but RunOffGroove is one of the OG pedal sites, and I wanted to start laying out PCBs for some of their circuits. The Supreaux Deux is really nice. It's reelated to the JHS SuperBolt (based on the Supreaux, not the Deux). If you want to build this yourself, you can find the gerber here.
Inspiration
I wanted to play on the "Two" in the Supreaux Deux name, and of course the "Tui" (pronounced "Two-eey") was a perfect fit. These are relatively common birds in New Zealand, occupying a niche similar to Jays in other places. They're fun birds with a cool song, and maybe most distinctive because of the two rounded patches of feathers on their throat, and the somewhat "hairy" looking feathers on the back of their neck.
One of my favorite bird-related things is the game "Wingspan" (we have all the expansions). It's probably the most-played boardgame that I own. Definitely the 'icon' or element that first comes to mind when I think of Wingspan is the 'nectar' token, introduced in the Oceana expansion. It's a bright pink color and acts as a 'wildcard' resource. So when I wanted a wingspan-inspired design I wanted to reference this. I didn't straight-up copy the logo, but went with a similar flower-themed design. I also used the two fonts that appear on Wingspan cards. I'm also really happy with the pink-colored knobs.
Overall this is among my personal favorite designs because of the bold pink color, great bird, and Wingspan reference... but I forget to round the print on the bottom left corner and it's gonna bug me forever. Maybe enough that I reprint the pedal and give this one away.
The Build
It was a clean build, no problems. The layout here is straightforward, and the only weird thing is the SPST switch, which I realized is surprisingly uncommon in pedals. I also kinda burned the board near the switch and pot while soldering. Whoops!
The Pedal
It sounds great. I really like "tube-y" overdrive pedals (at least, that's how I'd think about them), which I think you often get with JFET circuits. I think I personally prefer the Coggins "Tube Bender" circuit over the Supreaux Deux, but this is still a great-sounding overdrive pedal.
