Here’s another one that’s been sitting in my to-build queue forever, finally up and crushing…

It’s a “Workshop Crusher”. A version of the Bugcrusher sample-rate reducer effect by Bugbrand (who are mainly a modular synth company) designed to be built at some DIY workshops they did several years ago. Afterward https://www.thonk.co.uk/ sold the leftover kits on their site for a little while. That’s where I picked one up and promptly stashed it in a closet for several years;)

There’s some nice technical info and the schematic in the archived build doc:

Since it wasn’t originally designed to go in an enclosure, getting it in there required a bit of creative assembly as you can see. Fortunately the PCB did have stand-off holes. 😅

Sounds good, if a tad quiet. I assume maybe because it was designed with synth, rather than guitar, level stuff in mind. If the box wasn’t so crowded already, I’d say adding an expression jack for the Rate control would be a cool mod. You can get some nice sounds from sweeping it quickly.

There is some clock noise bleeding in, so I might try shielded wire to the Out jack.

Our bird this time is the most excellent Green Heron…

This one’s chomping on a crawfish (aka mudbug) in a nod to the original Bugcrusher name 🤘
