Saw the Sex Pistols last night - wow!

Ok so Johnny Rotten wasn't with them but the fella they got to fill in did an amazing job - incredibly energetic. From the moment Steve Jones started chugging for Holiday in the Sun I knew it was gonna be good.

Glen Matlock on bass looked very cruisey - almost looked like John Entwistle at times, if Entwistle just stayed on the root. Cooky just looked like Cooky on drums, and the pair of them were a tight, solid rhythm section. Steve Jones sounded like he was playing JCM800 2203 heads with the gain on 11. More gain than on the record but he made it work. Frank Carter on vocals did a great job, Leaping into the crowd in about the 3rd or 4th songs to arrange "circular mosh pits". One of the strangest things I will ever see - literally young and rather old all going in a circle, barging into each other and having a wild time! I never thought I would see so many pensioners moshing...

The gig was outdoors and it rained a lot. So we had a mostly older crowd - even older than me! - singing along, shaking bits which probably hadn't been shaken in a long time and being very physical. The band were fantastic. So much energy from a bunch of blokes who should really have had their feet up with a pint. I was wondering what they were going to play for the encore... And they came out with their version of My Way and then of course Anarchy in the UK. Epic. And the best bit? It was properly loud. Not quite ears ringing loud, but louder than most gigs these days. Exciting, exhilarating, powerful - just fab.

That's awesome. Nice to see they can still kick it. My band in the 70's did a few Pistols tunes.
