I love the Scarab Deluxe. It sounds great at all settings, it can go from OD to Distortion to Fuzz. It’s low parts count with no rare parts.

So I did my typical 2nd build- remove controls I don’t need/change, fit it into a 1590B.

As usual when I do stripboard, I go in with a vague wiring plan and then entropy strikes.

The first attempt was a failure- I had a row of cuts that were off-by-one, and I didn’t notice until pretty far along.

And then I ran out of red so I had to change the color scheme.

The controls are VOL, BASS (called FAT on the original), and GAIN. The TONE pot is replaced with the tone 3 lead going straight to vol 3. BIAS is on a trimpot because I only ever dial it in and leave it.

At first, I wired it the way it is on tagboard effects:

But this sounded like complete dog shit. So I checked out the PPCB schematic:

I rewired the pot this way and it sounded way better.

For the finish I did paint pens and glossy modge podge baked in the oven.
