Selling parts on eBay?

Anyone here sell on eBay? I’m curious if it’s worth the hassle.

I bought a couple of large lots of random electronic stuff, some cool stuff but mostly ham radio stuff, logic chips, and other oddball components that aren't useful to me.

I was going to just sell the excess locally as a big lot but since recently there was a reduction in force at work, I suddenly have a lot of free time. 😂 Figured I might as well use some of that time to keep busy and make a few bucks, although money is not the end goal, just to cure boredom and make room.

For those who sell on eBay, is it worth it? Especially for smaller lots of electronic components?

I've never sold anything on ebay, but it's something I've thought about doing a lot.

As a seller there's value in having a good number of completed transactions and a good rating. Even if you're not going to get rich selling your extra transistors, building up your profile could be cool.

Yeah, it should be a fun way to kill some time and make room in the office/studio/workshop.

Shipping is the thing I’m most curious about with the smaller items. Most people seem to be charging around $5 for shipping but unless there’s some kind of special eBay rate, I’m seeing $8–10 on Pirate Ship which is typically the cheapest I’ve found. Plus, I don’t want to be that guy who sends something in a janky box with 100 feet of packing tape as a shield, that drives me nuts when I get things like that so will invest in proper boxes etc.

I may dip my toes in with some of the larger lots of stuff I need to get rid of, see if I can move those and then work my way down to the $10–15 one offs if it makes sense.

Until then, anyone need 200 NOS mil-spec radio connectors? 😂

I sold off a few hundred knobs in 20 piece lots, light jewels by the ten, and a few other odds and ends. There was an eBay discount on shipping and it was totally worthwhile for me, netting me around two hundred free knobs out of the 500 I Iinitially bought at an already great price. All my customers were thrilled too, since I always comp’ed extras and prices were like 25-30% of the going rate for something that nice. Win-win all the way.

I stopped once I was required to do direct linking to my bank account, but I would probably just open a separate account dedicated to eBay trading if I ever had a similar opportunity.

Been a seller of my previous stuff on eBay for over 20 years. I currently have some NOS Russian MP20B up for sale. Been doing it so long with just trickle sales. It's a waiting game.
