Oh man this was an interesting side adventure, I’ll try and not write a novel about this but there was a lot that went on here, first I have to thank @Guardians of the analog for sending me this board and great job @szukalski. Soon as I was told the OD-1 was the father of the tube screamer I had to build it, I was fortunate enough to have everything on had to do so but the A1M pot which @peccary was gracious enough to send me one. I didn’t want to make an order for one enclosure so I did a waterslide decal and used an 125B I had… worked out good but I remember now why I hated doing them. I also didn’t feel like going my normal route with aesthetics and did kind of a minimalist graphic drawing inspiration from the colors of the TS and the OD-1 and calling it the Origin for obvious reasons.
I did the same mod Chris did and remove the 4k7 resistor to the volume pot which put the sweet spot (for me) right about noon. I also subbed a LT074 for the op amp.
How’s it sound?… well… a lot like an 808 to me
…. It’s almost a little fuller sounding (not sure if that’s perceived on my part) with the volume at noon and the gain fire walled it pushes a clean channel real nicely and cut through the mix like you would hope. Here is a quick improv with a track I’m currently working on, warts and all quick and dirty phone vid
