Soft Clipping diodes connection between?

I've seen a few different circuits where the soft clipping diodes have a wire connecting between the two sets in between them. IE the Cast Iron Overdrive
How does this effect clipping, is there any difference audibly if its not there?
 
interesting.. I've never noticed that on a schematic or paid attention. Just talking out of my ass but I would think it's possibly taking the path of least resistance if the signal is lower and if digging into it or playing harder would clip more? and of course I literally am such a newb about understanding how a circuit actually works so probably not..

Maybe, that was kind of one of my theories. I swear I’ve seen it on a few others. I also kind of suspect it does nothing.

I’m pretty sure i’ve seen it on a few different drives, can’t recall what they were at the moment.
