My ancestors used a rock. It was handed down and sits proudly in our china cabinet in the dining room.

That is truly a sentimental family heirloom. One one should be very proud of. Nice to know it's out for display for ALL to enjoy.
Oh the stories it must have behind it. Holidays must be killer. Ya know ..."Remember when Fig first had his.....and " I remember when Grandpa Fig had the stomach flu....Sounds like good times my friend.
got any pics? What kind of rock is it? Flint ? Limestone? Quartz? Maybe I'm Just curious is all.

at first I'm like wait a minute thats just a penny saved but then I reread it over and over and overand now understand how you got to the dollar being saved.
