Somebody talk me out of a SS Fender amp

I am blaming @Guardians of the analog for indirectly giving me the idea to look at amps of this nature in the first place. I found a Fender Champion 100 for $200 on FB Marketplace. 100 watts of 2x12 clean sounds like a whole lot of loud pedal platform. Reviews seem decent and at that price it looks to be at a bit below market value.

I need somebody to talk me out of it.

I got that frontman 25r for cheap and it's great as a second toss around pedal platform amp and a great stereo rig. Would be a good candidate for a cheap speaker upgrade and could double as a cabinet for another amp as well. I had to look them up but they go for 400 new so 200 cash ain't bad. I say go for it, especially if you plan to get drive tones from pedals.

Buy it

I don't think you came to the right place to be talked out of acquiring more gear....
My personal experience was a Frontman 212R and it was a great time. LOUD. CLEAR. and never gave me any trouble. Never played the champ but they seem to garner a lot of love. A 212 is perfect in my opinion. I would also say DO IT!

I would be getting drive tones from pedals, but the idea here was to tell me "no". Why are you enabling me, Chris? I, of course, already know why, that is how this place works.

a Frontman 212R
I also know of a FM 212R, the FM being the precursor to the Frontman, for $150. Maybe cheaper if the guy actually deals, since he is my wife's uncle. But he is a cheapskate, flipping yard sale finds as a job.

The Champion 100 is the successor to the Frontman. Newer amp with AUX in for $50 more, decisions, decisions.

BTW, I knew the only way I was getting a "Don't Do It" was if somebody had a bad experience with it.

I think your amp should reflect how much you like music and life in general.

200$ isn't enough and by far, you should go big and show your resolve.

What would Jimmy Hendrix or Jimmy Page do in this kind of situation ?

Think about how wonderful it would be to have a super expensive amp ?

Is this the one that has the built-in FX? I just looked in my local marketplace and there’s about 5 or 6 for $200
It has an effect level pot and a rotary where you can have 1 effect for each of the channels. Pretty sure I won't be bothering with those.

I am looking for a pedal platform. I still plan on a '63 Vibroverb build for all that tube-y goodness.

Plus I have to get this stuff past the MRS department.

The Fender Champion 100 is a great sounding amp. Period. If you can haggle the person down, snatch it up.

The Tweed amp models in particular are awesome but so are the Blackface models.
I messaged them, so we will see how it goes.

I figured that would be the zone the voice knob lived at.

Of course, I was only joking. Looks like there is a bargain to be made on these champion 100.

Now if you really want some arguments not to buy it :

1/ Think about the future of our generations, you never know what is going to happen, keeping the money in the bank or in the garden somewhere, is always the reasonable and safe choice. Your children will be grateful one day. besides, what good will be an amp, when you will face xi jing ping coming for you ?

2/ You could buy a beautiful bicycle instead and enjoy healthy rides under the sun. Better for your health than some heavy piece of metal full of toxic components

3/ You were happy before that dark day, when guardian of the analog whispered some evil thoughts into your innocent ear. It would be easy to forget all about the champion 100, and go back to your usual self.

4/ We all know where this is going : first the champion 100, two years later it's gonna be something else... I mean you will always be curious and open to new sounds, right ? This champion 100 is only the begining of a never ending consumerist pursuit of happiness. We know it's not gonna end well...

5/ You can take these 200 $, invite the person(s) you love in a beautiful restaurant, have some incredible food and a great time together, that's real.
Music ? Just some movements in the air really...

Hell... i almost convinced myself.

Amps prices are like wine prices. Anybody with a fat wallet can score a great wine. If it tastes/sounds good, it is good. If it’s cheap, it’s smarter.
My current amp is a 15W solid state from the mid-90's, so time for an upgrade. Trying to be as smart as I can. I have never played a tube amp, so I don't know any better. So "sounds good, is good" comes real easy to me.

All very good points. If only I had innocent ears...
