A while back a friend and I were engaged in deep discussions about JFETs. He's a retired avionics expert and is now into guitar pedals. During one of our deep discourses he sent me several articles that supported his posits. (Yes, I was being tutored.) One of those articles was for a project that blew my mind. It's science and art combined. But instead of saying any more, I'll let the attached article (in PDF format) speak for itself. Looking forward to all shared thoughts.

I've built a few of Pass'es amplifiers over the years, and still have the first preamp he marketed after he sold Threshold. (The preamp chassis is all machined 1/2 inch aluminum, every face of it!) I keep thinking about writing a long post about DIY audio; Nelson Pass is one of the renowned designers that comments and answers posts on the DIYAudio site. A true gentleman, in every regard.

I used to be into hi-fi audio - well, as close to it as I could afford - and I always hoped to someday have one of his amps. Maybe I will yet. Hmmm
 
Although, if it were me, I'd probably go for the Aleph-J, which is a great circuit, and would take long enough to build that you could get some more enjoyment out of the process.

Oooh that is VERY tempting. 25 watts at 8 ohms is more than enough for my purposes and the build would be really rewarding.

I sold my Harbeth P3s … and my Kudos … and my Naim … and and and to cover bills when the pandemic really bit into my business. I’m looking forward to building a system fresh and this amp would be the perfect centrepiece.
