Suboctave Pedals

Howdy,

Doing some fundraiser builds for somebody in my extended friends circle dealing with cancer, and the artist doing all the artwork for the builds really enjoys glitchy/super wild sounds (he owns a bass with a pedalboard literally built into it).

I suggested we go for a suboctave build, but it's an side of pedals I've got no idea about. I've been looking through all the various PCB offerings, and thinking I'm probably going with an Underminer (aka. Seppuku Sub-Octave Synth).

Are there any other builds that people like? No need for clean tones, and the wilder the better.

It is coming from Sweden. That said, it if it ain’t your jam then you do you. I can also recommend the Madbean glitchee and the PPCB Octarock is awesome. The Ocelot (boss OC-2) is a classic

Lectric soy sauce aka DOD meat box deserves a mention.

I like the underminer quite a bit though. A nice bang for the buck, the low parts/crazy toans ratio is excellent. My absolute favorite of the glitchy subs is my parasit arcadiator with the mod board on a second footswitch.

I think Parasit is the best I've seen for this type of thing TBH. U-235 is pretty good if all you want is suboctave.

PPCB Dirt Dauber is also fun but I found tracking to be worse.

All excellent suggestions, so I've nothing to add other than...

The MBP Glitchee is back on my radar of late:

A great combo of
DIRT
OCTAVE
AUTO-FILTER.

PPCB's Mini Heterodyne Receiver would be my choice for most mayhem per package size, though.

I think Parasit stuff is great, but since your experience wasn't great, then I won't mention Moonn — oh, I mentioned it.

I'll suggest DeadEndFX as an alternative to Parasit Moonn... You could build one big DEFX pedal and auction it off.

The Octarock is not glitchy at all, it’s very clean and tracks extremely well. It’s fantastic but maybe not what you’re looking for.

Captain Bit is great, you get the sub octave and other two octaves and it’s raw and aggressive.

The Receiver is the craziest one, with weird glissando effects and the ability to basically harmonize with two additional tones. And it gets glitchy on sustained notes.

I have no experience with the others.

All great suggestions! I do have a couple of wah enclosures, and I'm pretty sure I've got all those components for the Pompei in spares....

And just for the laughs, this is the artist in question. Yes, that is a full size pedalboard attached to his bass.

What the shit?! Seems like it would be easier to use feet rather than hands, unless he has no feet, then it’s pretty cool.

I love Warlocks, wish I'd bought a Warlock instead of a Rich Bich.
I also love double-necks, bass and baritone being ideal for my tastes.

However, I'm no body builder — that guy must work out 'cause that double-neck-with-pedalboard ...
oh, my back is screaming already just thinking about it.

WOW! TWO (2) ZOIAs!!! EMPRESSIVE!

I built a bass/bari once. I also gigged it. ONCE.
