Suggested drill hole for 3mm led bezel

Hi folks. Started on my pedal building journey a few months ago and it’s been a learning experience.

What size drill hole is recommended for the metal 3mm led bezel from stomboxparts? Their description reads ~6mm drill hole. The widest portion of the part itself is 5.8mm. I plan to put this size in existing tayda templates. Which by the way, why are many of the tayda templates including a tiny 4.4mm led hole? I ordered a few boxes a month ago without realizing that it wouldn’t accommodate the 3mm led bezel. That 4.4mm hole size i found is not flush with a bare 3mm led. It has space around it. Is this for folks who choose to glue the led in place?

4.4mm hole size is for plastic bezel/clip LED holders. Like these ones from Tayda:

They actually measure about 4mm though. The extra 0.4mm is probably for a painted enclosure. I used 4.1mm holes on Tayda (painted), and forced them in and it worked.

For a 3mm LED to friction fit into a bare hole you want slightly under 3mm, but it depends on the tolerances of your specific LEDs. Some are smaller than others. I tried 3.0mm w/ painted and got good results before.

In my tayda drill templates, I used 5.9mm when I have an 3mm LED bezel.
When drilling by hand, I use a 15/64 bit.
