Tape Delay MKII (Aleph Null)

This is a pretty nifty delay, designed by @Aleph Null who was kind enough to send me a PCB over the pond (I also got a Peacock).

You can read about this delay in detail here.

It's a PT2399 Delay with envelope controlled modulation and an interesting tails implementation, meaning the TAILS knob sets the speed at which the repeats are turned off when the effect is bypassed. Goes from more or lesss zero to about fifteen seconds.

There is also a good build doc coming with it, that mentions some possible mods. This is a stock built, with the exception of the WARBLE potentiometer that I upped to 50k as this promised "extra lush modulation", who wouldn't want that?
(The extra trim pot on the right is for the pilot light. The other one sets the point for self oscillation kicking in.)

It sounds great, actually very "clean" to me for a 2399 circuit, which was a pleasent surprise. There is a NOISE knob though, if you want to get some of that.

So yeah, great circuit, easy build, brilliant sounds.

THANKS!

Digging the retrofuturistic art! Have you found the "robot farts" setting yet? Should be easier to get with the 50k Warble control

Ah yeah, the robot farts, put some dirt in front of it and wooh-hoo

I've built this but haven't boxed it and did a lot of the mods that were on the weird side and it's a lot of fun. I still haven't coaxed out the robot farts though.

I’m just building this… was the 50k pot worth doing? Any negatives?
Depending on your input signal and transistor, doubling the warble pot may not give you double the warble; there might be a dead spot at the far end of the rotation where not much happens. Also, if you want to use very short delays and a little bit of warble to get chorus sounds, they will be much more fidley to dial in.

If you want the option of polite chorus go with 25k. If you want maximum robot farts and weirdness, go 50k. Nicely modulated repeats will be available either way.

Kay por los nos dew-ohs...?

Have your robot farts and chorus, too.

If you don't mind some slightly strange pot-tapering, you could go with a B50k-pot and then add a 50k resistor in parallel to the pot on a switch, which would give you the 25k.
