The 1590A Dilemma

I just stick A boards in a B.
Side jacks eat up the size benefit
Tayda solid core made.me swear off 1590A

I head you, but I just love the size of them. There's something about a guitar pedal that you can put into your pocket that I love. Also, you'd be surprised how many 1590As you can get on a Metro 16 board, and when you're hauling gear in and out of clubs and squeezing a five-piece band on a tiny little stage, you find out that size does matter.

I use graph paper to plot out my drilling and I always try and get my jacks as close together and towards the top as possible. Using either an out-y power jack (at the risk of jack shame) or one of the tiny lumberg jacks helps to give you some wiggle room. You got this, just keep stuffing….

I did a Diezel VH4 ch3 preamp in a 1590A as a gimmick/proof-of-concept of a topology I'm developing (this one uses only 1 dual opamp).

I ended up liking it so much, that I bought 7 more boxes to do other preamp designs in the same format.

PS: I actually got to test it just once, because I borrowed it to a friend to test and it ended up in his pedalboard for his live solo tone since then.

To date, I've only built two 1590A projects -- an Acapulco Gold mod, and a PPCB Squidward (which I am still trying to get to work), but I have about 10 more planned. Once I get the Squidward working, I may try my hand at another one.
