The Angry Man

Totally understand. My only reason to record my gear right now would be to make a record of what it sounds like. I'm not really songwriting or playing in a band right now.

When I had the Tascam I had my mic positioning down. Pointed at the edge of the centre cone dustcover, angled at around 45 degrees. But that doesn't transfer to digital it seems. Plus I guess all of my gear is so different now...

As far as the Angry Man goes, well I have been experimenting with lowering the gain with both R6s and not really getting anywhere good. The gain hasn't changed enough in a useful way and I find that when I lower R6b (R7) I lose the punch which is one of the key reasons I love this circuit.

I might revisit it but I really like the 1M on IC1-b's pins 6&7. There is less extraneous stuff. It's all just punch and directness. All I have to do is avoid going past 1.00 or 2.00, which is what I do on practically every OD I have. And even if I do there are still some outrageous sounds there! I can see why you might want to avoid that but I really don't mind.

FWIW I play through a home-brew 5E3 based on a Clark Beautfort; ie it has slightly reduced B+ and it is biased properly. I also use a home-brew 5F4/5E7 tweed amp with a single 12 and EL34s (a bigger PT allows that). I've tested this pedal with a Strat, a DuoJet, a really lovely Les Paul, a USA Epiphone Casino and a Gibson ES225. It sounds fantastic to me with all of them.
