Thumb Sucker ratio knob behavior

Before I launch into troubleshooting, I just want to make sure what i'm experiencing is expected or not.

Ratio knob full CCW is my full volume signal, as you'd expect. But as I start to turn it CW, the volume suddenly drops and is super quiet. As I go to full CW it gets a little louder, but still much quieter than my full signal.

Is this something with my build or normal for this circuit?

Attack to 0, Release to 4, Thresh to 10 (scale of 0 through 10, not o'clock). Level at 8.

Ratio CCW and I got dry signal at good volume. I turn Ratio up to 2-3 and it feels a tad louder, but it might just be perceived and not real. Then I dial Ratio higher, slowly, till CW and I don't perceive any more loudness increase. Loudness definitely doesn't go down the higher I dial Ratio.
