Noon question, but which end is the “top” to start the pin numbering? The notch side or the side with the circle? Pardon the picture. My phone wouldn’t focus very well on the writing.

Yes. And if there is no notch, pin 1 is the one with the small dot in the corner.

BTW, that pic Music6000 posted is a top view, i.e. looking down on the IC. Some IC manufacturers show bottom views on the datasheets, i.e. pins pointed up.
