Well, it seems that MichaelW has beaten me by a few weeks in producing this pedal. I've been a lifelong Robin Trower fan and have been looking forward to this one. I've built other tube screamer pedals in the past so I was worried that it wouldn't be anything different - but it is.
For those that don't know what the Robin Trower Overdrive (RTO) is, Robin has been using Fulltone for his drive pedals for decades, and was known for having a Fulldrive as his 'always on' pedal throughout countless gigs. The (RTO) is a refinement of the Fulldrive. If you look at the circuit diagrams of this pedal and the Fulldrive (Minidrive on PedalPCB), you'll see that all the filtering is identical and the only thing that's changed is the 1N914/1N4005 clipping diodes on this rather than a range of switchable options including MOSFETs on the Fulldrive.
Playing a strat through this into a Marshall takes you right back to the '80s in a good way. It certainly captures the voice at the heart of Robin's playing. Highly recommended build.
This is the first pedal I've built for over a year. This is the first time I used the Tayda drill service. It's more expensive than the predrilled option we used to be able to order, but it all worked. The tariffs were all included in the shipping. The order was filled and delivered in 13 days, so a lot less than their webpage would have you believe.
I called mine the 'Robin T' drive. I'll be doing a few more overdrives soon.
As you can see, it's a tiny board. I certainly needed my magnifying headset to put this together....
