I was wondering, why not create over time a section for DIY tube preamps?

Would be cool to have some high voltage tube projects, maybe an integrated boost converter for the high voltage so we can just power it with 12vdc (directly powered heaters). I wonder if that would affect feel and sound, versus the more typical transformer power supply?

i don’t know what Mr PCB thinks about high voltage projects though, there might be some potential liability there (or at least headaches for him) if someone zaps themselves.

enclosures would be the most difficult thing for us, probably. Though I’m sure someone could find a line on empty 1u rack or 1/2u rack enclosures.

I could be wrong but I believe the liability issue has been brought up before.

I prefer tube preamps in a pedal format, not rack. The folded alloy/steel sloping Hammond enclosures are ideal.

If the tube pre is meant for an amp, then an amp chassis is my druther.

I'm building a Mesa pre, and I've got the MadBean Uber Tuber to build. Wish Grind Custom's STM800 was still available.

Nice I’m still afraid of tube voltage but I’m become more confident as I read... I have been looking more and more at preamp boards scattered across the internet.... a lot of Russian made boards on eBay.

Staying afraid of tube-voltage pays, in staying alive.

What I'm afraid of now is... my fear of tube-voltage has waned slightly.
Gotta remember to keep one hand behind my back while poking about with a wooden chopstick in the other...
