Two builds in one?

I'd like to get into PCB production but the minimum order of 5 units at JLC is meh. I'm thinking it would be cool to make a PCB for a gain pedal that can be populated one way to produce one type of gain pedal, or another way for a different sound. Like those model car kits that came with extra parts so you could make the model into a stock showroom car or a street machine.

Does anyone do this? I was watching the TPS Keeley factory episode, and he said he does this with FV-1 and his delay/reverb pedals, but I'm thinking of a simple overdrive circuit that could be made into one of two sounds, depending on what parts are populated or omitted.

As already mentioned, with added emPHAsis...

YATSy: (with / without buffers GranderLaugh, Robbing Trawler, Tinmeaty, Oh-Seedy,etcetcetcetc)
Muff: (dozens of very ants from EHX, ColourSoundblox Jumbo, BaT Pharowl, etc2etc2etc2
Rattattattat: lots a mod-Hell trails to go down

Simple Boost Circuit: Elekterra, LPB-Won, Scremaing Byrd, Moal-Hogknuckle etc...

MiXeR Dist+/DODdle250/MaXeRµBoost/ARMstrongBlooGipper/RossDistoarshun—etc.

One Knob Fuzz can be done in a half dozen ways, off the top of my head, plus more if I search my hard-drive and yet more if I search the Internet.

Lots of homework to study, see how others do it to get an ideal of how Yoo ken DOO EET!

  • GPCB does some boards that can be built a multitude of ways: Muff'n, Emexar, Zenith, Ultimate Overdose...
  • Moonn has some as well, Deviforever, for example...
  • GGG has a couple ...
  • Aion to some extent...
  • etc

Timmy is decent enough starting point. Would be possible to do a Timmy, Lightspeed, Jan Ray (and more).

Okay, I got it. I'll take a look at a few tube screamer circuits and play spot the difference. Thanks guys
Start from the TS-5 and go to the TS-10. Lots of parts could be omitted and or jumpered for various versions. Cool idea now that it all comes together in my head.
