This is an older board in the PPCB catalog. I can't believe I missed it in my quest to build every PPCB OD/Distortion hahahaha.
This was a recent purchase in my last batch from @Robert
I have never heard of Dawner Prince, but they're a pedal maker based in Croatia.
It's a super high gain Marshall flavored dirt box. I would not categorize it as an MIAB as it's really its own thing.
I'm running the gain at about 9 o'clock, which is about all I can handle.
There's also a ton of output for driving an amp.
Robert followed the original in having the level and gain on the second (bottom) row. Which always throws me off from my label-less approach to artwork
But that's also why I have the knobs the way they are so I can remember what's what.
The circuit has the DNA of an MI Audio Crunch Box, but with some interesting hard clipping arrangement.
2x 1N4001's, 1x Ge diode, and 1x 4148. I've never seen this arrangement before and it seems to work well.
At full gain this thing can chug pretty well. At the other end of the rotation the gain goes all the way down clean boost at full CCW.
At the lower gain settings it's definitely got a Plexi vibe. Then as you turn the gain up it gets into the modded JCM800 territory.
Aside from the Master (Level), Gain, and Tone knobs, there's also a "Contour" control that acts as a mid range control.
At full CCW it's pretty scooped. As you turn it up it add mids very gently. It never quite gets to TS808 pokey-midrange. It's a really nicely voiced control.
Sounds great with a strat or a Les Paul. Highly recommended build!
