Crikey.
I know i’m late to the party, it’s old news and everyone’s built one..
..but damn, i never expected this to have such a devastating and crushing sound
even when i was breadboarding a RAT to verify/test the LM308HZ, and then a green ringer for the D9E diodes, i was kinda doubting how it would sound any good, but i guess there’s some magic in a blend control.
- got hold of a couple LM308HZ opamps (national semi, motorola) auditioned them in a stock rat circuit on breadboard, and picked the motorola.
- selected a pair of D9E diodes that both measured 0.33v forward voltage.
- matched components for that critical octave section.
- tin build 2 of 2 of some old tins my dad gave me a few months ago (1 of 2 was that triangle big muff build)
- vero because i wanted to punish myself with obscene offboard wiring
i loved the RAT, no doubts there, but i didn’t expect to enjoy blending in the octave as much as i do.
i guess it’s more than the sum of its parts, the blend control seems to get the best out of a green ringer circuit, and the footswitchable mosfet boost is another level of loud (really enjoy it's EQ effect too).
holy crap. i forgot to mention how loud this thing is. wtf.
(clipping modes should be labelled: loud, louder, loudest)
This is one of those builds that has been on my list for the longest time and i'm glad i finally got around to doing it.
yes, another demo.
everyone’s heard this pedal already, and i struggle to do fuzz pedals justice (and demos in general) but im just so pumped on this circuit combo and tbh - if you haven’t built a parenthesis fuzz or a parenthesis mini fuzz - add it to your list now.
the last demo kinda sucked and i probably shouldn’t have used that phaser over the triangle muff but i promise this one is better, i even went through all the clipping modes and dialed the octave in, it’s wicked.
