VFE MCU code released for free (finally)

There is a supplier that you upload hex to and they can get them burned for you. Gotta dig it up.

Microchip will do programming of them too. I thought it was a bit more straight forward than it may be. I will investigate this further. If it is a bit more involved, I can head up a group buy for the chips. I think depending on the project, there may be a need for through-hole and SMD.

Shoot. If someone could fab a 2-in-1 switching board with an order switch like the one I got from Swirl Pedals so many years ago, I’d be down for that too! I mean, as long as we’re dreaming here…

I was an early adopter, and have downloaded every update since. I don’t think it was ever part of it, but I’ll check my PC tomorrow
I first downloaded it in July '21 and it's not in there. Now that I go back and look it looks I missed downloading the update that happened in Aug '22, the latest files I have are from Feb '22. Of course the code is no longer valid. Doh!

That sucks...

So, looks like the chips are around $1 USD. SMD is slightly cheaper than DIP, but stock is a little short on SMD until September/October. Having Microchip program them is an additional $0.09/chip ( at least for DIP, which I actually went through the steps for). So, it will take too many chips to make the local programming hardware investment worth it.

The last time I got pre-programmed chips from them it was about $160 shipped for 120 qty. That was a different but similarly priced chip and with pre-printed labels. Turnaround was a bit longer because of the pandemic but they may be back to normal now.

I didn't check on labelling them, but that would probably be a good idea. Probably about the same now, with shipping.

I doubt it's the same, now — EVERYTHING has gone up in price lately, some went up just because the powers that be realised they can jump on the bandwagon and blame it on post-covid inflation like everybody else —whether their actual cost has genuinely gone up or not, everything seems to be escalating quickly on the inflation index.
