What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Working on troubleshooting my Crystal Lettuce Silver build, which I started before the documentation became available. Houston, we have a problem:

I had my enclosure printed the first way, so I guess I'll just have to do my own layout to match that configuration now. Might as well do it for a surface mount opamp while I'm at it, and a bunch of other circuit upgrades, I reckon.

Totally on me though, as I did a board trace and completely missed the reverse control format. I won't be buying any undocumented boards again anytime soon though, for sure! :ROFLMAO:
It might be possible to do offboard wiring for the pots I guess, but that's a huge hassle.

Eh, maybe the guy I'm gifting it to won't care. But if he does I'll probably just build him something else, since the stock config is likely way too hot for his purposes anyway.

I did a picture search and found the XR2206 kit. Was looking at pricing and found one that bills itself as better than the XR2206 with improved opamp and higher voltage. Price was right at $13.89. SUPPOSED to be in California, but the estimated delivery date is 11 days. Their address is 40 miles from my house, and it was listed as IN THE USA.

If I get this sucker 11 days from now they are definitely getting negative feedback for lying about the location. If I wanted it from China I would have purchased on Ali....

Yep, that looks pretty much like the same circuit, except mine only has 3 knobs, but other than that, everything looks about the same.

Supposedly has a better opamp which operates at 12v....

I used to just plug in a guitar and have my wife keep picking while I traced the signal path with my oscilloscope... since she's moved into the next dimension I really just need a super simple sine wave.

Some thing to note on those signal generators is that they are fairly hot compared to guitar signal.
I don't know if I can find my notes or not but if you want to use them with an oscilloscope for clipping analysis, they are not great for that..
But, if you just need a buzz(don't we all) to test with, they're fine.
I eventually aborted the use of mine and just decided to use other methods. But they're great for single tones. Just watch the level.
There are several mod thread out on the webs about modding them a well.

Friend & myself installed 2 new humididiers Friday. About 95% done.

Finally got to wake up without a dried-up crusty nose-bled.

Was that description too graphic?
Need to do the same in my house but in the opposite direction.
If my duct were that bare it would have a few inches of mold on it.
Humidity in the south is no joke.
Even now (in the "winter") I'm using a dehumidifier to keep the basement under 60%.
That being said, the last snow when it was single digits for a week, nosebleeds were no fun. Especially with the electric heat going 24/7.

Do you guys have a relay setup to keep the humidifiers from running when the main blower is off?
I would be worried about moisture building up in the duct otherwise.

Yep, it's a hands-free, looper-free method with the added benefit that you can play around with specific frequencies to isolate noise issues.

I can still relate. The humidity and mold when I lived in HK was/is legendary.
First thing I did when I woke up every morning was empty the bedroom's stand-alone dehumidifier.

Then I moved back to the high and dry prairie.

Yes, to the relay question. In fact, one of the old relays was toast and had to be replaced in the process. The advantage to rotating drums is that the water pan fills up and then the float valve shuts off the water. Then the low-water sensor kicks in as needed to keep the pan full. The drum only rotates when the furnace is on.

The disadvantage to the drums is that there are more moving parts and more to go wrong.
The new humidifiers ditch the drums and are a gravity-fed trickle thingermajiggy, so basically no moving parts and thus less electricity consumed, BUT they are a total loss system. When the furnace is on, the water relay trips the water a tricklin' and there is unfortunately some water wastage.
It's so dry here, moisture still wouldn't build up in the duct; the water turns off when the furnace isn't blowing.

We have two furnaces (two-level house), so two humidifiers. My HVAC friend's house is one level and he has a furnace that is almost too small for the house so when it's really cold the furnace is almost always constantly on, and thus so is the humidifier and he has a stable humidity level. Due to the upstairs/downstairs split at mine, the humidity is always trying to balance itself out between the two floors.

At night the main-floor furnace is set to eco mode, during the day we turn down the furnace for the upper bedrooms — I bet my friend spends less on heating not because he has but one furnace, but because his furnace is mostly coasting, just maintaining a temperature; whereas ours are always transitioning.

Nonetheless, even though I have a powerful dual-furnace system, I also have a thick-furred dog and wife experiencing The Great Change, thus ensuring that I'm still always cold.

Too much blathering on about my furnaces...
Also on the workbench:
I've partially populated a PCB tonight. No pics, alas, as I'm missing a few values in caps and resistors.

Have you tried a Netipot? I used to get chronic sinus infections, came to an abrupt halt in 2010 when I started rinsing daily. Semi-gross but extremely effective and better than taking five z-packs a year.....

Thanks for the heads up, I suppose I could build a cable with a 1M pot, that should be enough!

I had to unhook mine as when it would open up, it caused my gas valve to slam shut. No problem with my old furnace, but with the new one (bigger size) it fights for power

And yes, I understand your umm home climate discrepancies with the wife. Mine likes it much colder than my arthritic knees can handle. So she keeps it where she’s comfortable and I’m always wrapped up in a heated blanket lol

I used to call my wife frost queen.... Middle of the winter she's run around the house opening all the doors and windows, meanwhile I'm covered with a jacket and have a 1500w heater pointed at my feet....

Yeah, I thought about building an impedance adapter for mine, but at the end of the day, I am just using it to listen for tone on a circuit. I keep my little 5W amp set at 1, or maybe even a little less than that. It works fine for what I am using it for. I'm sure I'll eventually outgrow it. It is really handy for me since my studio is in my basement and my workbench is on the second floor. I was getting tired of running up and down the stairs just to see if a pedal was passing a signal.

I have an amp I built just prior to my wife getting sick and it's got something wrong between the input jack and the output jack. PT and OT are fine. Oscilloscope time! It's just been setting on the "round to it" shelf for 3 years....

Well, it's not quite on the workbench yet, but I am blueprinting this Metropolis 2203 repro chassis I received today before I start building it.

Gotta finish my 59 Bassman before I start on this but I get bored if I don't trade off from project to project occasionally. I'll probably get it about half way blueprinted before going back to the Bassman. With me it's more about the journey than the destination........
