What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Them helical cutter heads are nifty. It's a hefty upgrade at like 300 bucks, but they're certainly worth the price of admission.

Regardless, much faster than flattening with a pre-war Stanley No. 5.

It’s definitely been the most complicated projects I have tackled. It’s Soldano “Based” and so far it seems to handle a down tuned 7 string fine I doubt it would be a good fit for a bass. Unless you wanted a 3 channel guitar preamp.

Another much less expensive future option is to consider replacing your planer's cutter w/ a helical one - there are companies that sell them as upgrades for popular units such as your DeWalt.

Thanks. It came with an extra set of blades so I figure by the time I go through both sets I'll put in helical ones. At that point the planer be well used so I won't worry about screwing it up.

I've got the planer, bandsaw, drill press, router, router table, jointer, table saw, miter saw and assorted hand tools. That's about a 10 years of collecting shop tools when I could afford them. I got some good deals on used items over that time.
 
Anyone want to take a guess? The foot switch bottom left is giving up the ghost.

I missed the AionFX note until thread. I just ran up against this for 2.2 µF in the Empyrean Deluxe I was building last weekend. It looks like I had ordered a batch of the Kemets this summer. I have 3 of the Wima 1µF's left and a small supply of the 5mm Kemets. For the 2.2µF I need, it looks like my choice is either some giant MOJO looking Panasonic film capacitors with long enough leads to elevate above the board or electrolytics (I do have a batch of bipolars I was considering using).

You can run 2 1uf caps in parallel to get you 2uf. That would be fine.
 
The UberDrive Boss SD-1 lives and breathes. Another board down, at least until I get the proper PCB mount pots and design a case for this.

The Empyrean Deluxe is back on the bench. I have the caps I need. And 24 unfinished PCBs.

There were still plenty of 2.2uF 50v MKS Wimas available on eBay the last time I checked, just a couple of weeks ago. I snagged a bunch of the 1uF 50 volters when I got the EOL heads up from Mouser and should be good on those for several more months at least, thankfully.
 
I hate working on guitars so I am happy to have this done, but even more happy it turned out how I envisioned.

I ended up going with 5 strings, CGCEG, like Keith Richards's GDGBG but starting at C2. 62/46/32/26w/20 - pretty heavy. I like things a little more heavy than Keith. I didn't want to leave a empty hole so I put in a 10mm bolt, nut and washers. I found a Gotoh locking tuner set that was drop in.

I decided on a Fishman Fluence Open Core Classic set. I waffled about getting their rechargeable battery pack, but it was expensive, they don't have the actual dimensions on the website so I didn't know if it would fit, and also I would rather just have a 9V in there. I remembered Dingwall's magnetic battery compartment cover and thought it could work here. I went with 5mm magnets and used a 5mm brad tip bit. I used epoxy for the magnets in the body. For the cover I snipped off the end of the original screws and used UV curing super glue for both the faux screws and the magnets. It looks stock and the magnets hold the cover on very well :)

It's a lot of fun to play!
 
It's easy to screw up, but some plastics are more hardy than others. 1990s Macintosh plastics are among the absolute worst, if not the worst. [They have a nickname, "Spindler Plastic" Macs, named after the ceo of the worst era of Apple. He even wanted to sell it to Dell…] so it's always good to test on a sample, regardless what type it is.
