What's on your wrist?

This thread reminded me that I really liked wearing watches around the same time cell phones invaded all our lives. I’m gonna go back to the analog, send help (or recs @Stickman393)
Depends what your priorities are.

Generally, because I am first and foremost a drummer, I really appreciate a 4:00 crown that doesn't dig into the back of my wrist when I'm flexing it. I also surf and swim occasionally, so water resistance is good, and who doesn't like to read their watch at night--good lume. I tend to do dumb stuff and beat the crap out of my watches, so a recessed glass protected by the raised watch body is desirable. Finally, I dislike changing batteries, so a solar quartz or automatic mechanical is always what I will go for.

Then it's just aesthetics and complications. I even have a watch with an integrated slide rule (that I can no longer use without reading glasses, hahaha)

Can't go wrong with the affordable classics--Seiko, Casio, Citizen--I don't know where Stickman finds his stuff, but there are some GREAT watches coming out of (China?)--I mean a titanium automatic with sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, lume, and date complication for under $100? You really can't beat that.

To be fair, the titanium automatic with lume, date, and Sapphire crystal is a Berny: their field watch styles are only rated to 100 meters.

There are *tons* of choices on AliExpress. The Seiko NH35 movement is the backbone of the latest crop of AliExpress cheap autos. If you catch them on a sale (they tend to run monthly sales)...you can get em so cheap you gotta wonder where the profit is for 'em.

Solar options are less common, and I haven't seen anything with a "kinetic" type movement.

The WR on some of these can be a little bit iffy. To be fair: they're built to similar specs as a bunch of dive watches, but they don't actually test them before they ship em out.

I've had one that got foggy after I went swimming with it on. I took off the case back and let it air dry: it still runs just fine. I found that the rear gasket hadn't seated properly when they were slapping it together. It happens.

What is (IMHO) the best bang for the buck right now on AliExpress is the Steeldive SD1970 & SD1970C. Its a Seiko Willard homage, and it's just fantastic.

Personally...I'm a NATO fan. Or marine nationale. Or any of the military-style straps. Nylon, cotton, leather, as long as it's a one piece I'm good. Bracelets and I don't get along.

My meat man also has quite large wrists. Like, 8" in circumference. Which makes finding straps that are long enough a bit of a mission. Of which I've spent like...too much time researching. But yeah, I got the deetz.

Grading all youss fucker's hate today with my SEIKO SRPG35.

I've had to swap the crystal on this one twice so far. First time cause the hardlex shattered, second time cause I was installing a toilet at my in-laws place and forgot to take it off.

Ceramic. It'll scratch sapphire.

Overall, I love the dial on this watch. Seiko really did a nice job on that. Where it loses points, though, is in the bead blast and 3-piece construction of the case.
The WR could be a lot better.

This was the watch I bought myself when I started getting back into wearing a watch. I'd buy it again, honestly. It's a great little watch.

Got it on a Crown & Buckle Matte Supreme Nato strap.

Crown and Buckle makes some great straps, although they're slightly infuriating in how long most of their straps are (280mm is NOT LONG ENOUGH), but the supreme (seatbelt) and matte supreme (more traditional woven nylon) are 290, which is just enough.

Expensive, though. Great straps, but it would be great if they were like...just...a bit cheaper.

For you up in America's hat, check out "Strap Mill Canada". I wholeheartedly endorse those folks. Great stuff.

Oddly I don't change watch every day (shocking I know).. apart from the forerunner (not really that interesting).. these are my only two..

Still quite surprised it didn't get mauled by reef rocks even I have numerous scars from healing wounds attempting to climb out the force 5 surf up a metal ladder with sharp reef all around.. I figured I owed a photo of the Maurice La Croix given I'd mentioned it previously.

So.. today is ... the WR200 as that's replaced my forerunner as the daily watch.. although it is lacking an alarm and a backlight so bright that you can use it as a personal torch..

Got a lil omega homage here.

While reading through just....the most aggravating work emails ever.

At least the watch is cool. Fuckin, all edges and fuck you energy.

Got it on a Maratac Zulu. Honestly, countycomm is just about the only good spot for the 5-ring Zulu straps. They gotta be heavy and relatively stiff. They need to be at least 300mm long. And most of the time, any other company that makes them tends to make the bottom retaining strap too long.

Its infuriating how difficult it is to find good, long straps. Part of that is because of the troll that's squatting on the "NATO" trademark. Eesh. 1000057770.jpg

this is giving me Etsy vintage soviet dive watch energy

I checked for the current Sports 5 Field and I wonder why they are so expensive. People on Reddit say it‘s the newer movement and just because they can. 169€ in 2016 vs 279€ now… Sometimes I don‘t understand the philosophy of these companies. It‘s like 15€ for a fucking beer at the Oktoberfest.

It's the reason I started shifting over to Chinese companies, honestly. They're eating Seiko's lunch at the moment.

The NH35/36/38 is a remarkably good movement. Not all that dissimilar to the 7S26, but it also hacks and hand-winds. It's also...like...35 bucks street price. It's cheap.

Some of the newer field watch models like my SRPG 35 have a bit more work put into their dials, and it shows. Applied indicators, textured surfaces, yada blah. It's a very nice looking watch. But...

Well...it's still pretty weak in terms of WR, and the hardlex crystal is meh.

For the same price or less, AliExpress is overflowing with options with the same movement, great WR, and sapphire crystals.

Today: not an NH35, on account of the sub seconds hand.

I've got a soft spot for the Dirty Dozen style. Only problem is they're not typically made with a date complication. Baltany came out with this one, and I had to buy one:
