What's your current headache?

carpal tunnel and tendonitis in my left hand. I had surgery on my right hand in 2019 but my left hand is cooked. I need to see my hand doctor again bad. it used to only hurt after certain things but it hurts all the time now and I'm tired of dropping everything. Playing guitar sucks now
That is awful. I first developed tendinitis about 20 years ago. I can’t play classical guitar for more than 5-10 minutes without it being painful.

I’ve done physical therapy 3 times for it now. It always ends up being tied back to an issue in my neck. It helps, but then the pain creeps back in after I’ve finished the PT program.

Microwave oven didn’t heat things anymore as meant. Asked silently why not? There’s no reason for not taking a peek. Went taking the cord off from wall and after opening chassis check the main cap with DMM to make sure it’s safe to touch. Do more basic tests with DMM and bingo. Found out a 12kV diode from main cap to gnd had 12Mohm reading both ways and vf test showed O.L. Done.

Thanks to this pedal circuit hobby thing for saving me some cash. I would never gotten into so deep into DIY without the motivation from you, so a humble nod for the community here on this board for more and less educative reads!

I tried to joke with my friends about replacing that bad diode with a string of series connected 5408s but they didn’t get it. :(

Edit. did some reading and realized I was too simple on my conclusion about diode being bad. The voltage drop on these exceeds DMM diode test function. Maybe I have just problems with microcontroller. Spare parts are unobtainium locally Gonna attach chassis lid back and test the thing if there was some digital bug going on before heading to store to buy a new microwave oven…

Car ownership. The other day I start the engine and a freaking pullrod gets destroyed. So far, $500 deep on diagnosis. For the next step I have two options. Another diagnosis for $2000 to check for lifter or camshaft damage. And then if there’s camshaft damage a potential engine rebuild. Or a full engine replacement for $16,000. I was planning on trading it in before this happened. Huge headache.

(You may already know this). If you think you have carpal tunnel syndrome in the left hand, consider wearing a carpal tunnel wrist splint at night only. It takes time (months), but most cases will heal without surgery. Regardless, you do want to get it checked out, especially if the hand/thumb is weak. (This stuff is my day job).

What kind of car is it?

you're cooked bro

Luckily not even half-baked!

Yesterday put lid back and tested it. Heating works fine now and magnetron sound level was reduced which made noisy and dry fan bearings more audible. Guess there was a bug with microcontroller and relay on preventing overheating with reduced power. I’ll just lube the bearing and call it done. If it works better then good, if not it’s shopping time.

I had tennis elbow about 20 years ago from bad posture and technique playing classical guitar. It took me like a whole year of physical therapy to finally not have pain when playing. But luckily I didn’t need surgery. In any case, I wish you a speedy recovery GOTA!

Lifter failure is pretty common on those. A good fix is to have the shop remove the Displacement on Demand setup as the design of lifters that goes with that setup is what fails.

Likely all you need is a camshaft, a push rods, and a set of lifters. I can't see that costing more than around 5k - it's all top end work that may not even need the cylinder heads to come off.

Yeah, I was considering that- I would love for this particular issue to not happen again. I appreciate the comment, their “2nd option” to do a full engine replacement had me spiraling.

Yeah, with the engine replacement you'd still be in the same boat in 40k miles or so.

They just offer two options to force the perspective that the first option is good value for money.
