I really didn't plan on posting this build. It was more of an experiment than anything. Even used a scratch enclosure with a Sharpie design. Main reason I built it is because I kept hearing about the EQD Plumes on various boards and such. So, yeah, had to build one to see what the fuss was all about.
Now, I've built a number of different TS pedals over the past year. The first was a TS808 using a AionFX Stratus PCB. I liked that one enough to build another but closer to a TS9 with different diodes and transistors as well as an option for GE clipping diodes. Turned out really nice.
I also built a Bootleg Overdrive which turned out to sound really close to the TS9 one I built but added a Blend knob. Along with that was the Actual Overdrive Jr, which is pretty much a dead-on copy of the Stratus. No surprise there.
Within the past month I also did an AionFX Karkadann, a clone of the Way Huge Green Rhino MKII. That one is quite interesting and remarkably different in tone. Has a rather responsive quality about it. Can be quite touch sensitive.
So, when I fired up the Greengage, I really wasn't expecting it to be all that different than the other TS inspired pedals I built. While it definitely has the same DNA, it's still a different circuit than the others. Tone-wise, I ended up liking it better than all the other TS pedals, enough to sideline them and keep the Greengage as my primary TS pedal. There's so much overlap between them all but the Greengage just seems to have a better overall tone. Plus, it stacks really freaking well.
