That's not a backlog, this is a backlog…
Well, of late there's a been a whole buncha yakkin' on the forum about build-backlogs, so this past Easter Monday I took it upon myself to re-organise my bench and assess mine own backlog and I took a pic of the PCBs in the queue...
I'm not posting this to have a pssing contest, I'm not even competing with myself. There will be someone out there that makes my obsession/collection look mild, all the more power to them.
I buy what I want when I can, and I build whenever I can, which isn't often enough. However, the good news is I'm making more time for building, so hopefully I can crank out some builds unless life sends another sidewinder.
Why so many PCBs? Sales. Barry can relate! I buy during sales, bulk up. When I first started building, I read about how some people build an extra pedal to help fund the habit so I thought why build two, why not build five? That delusion didn't last long, but the sales have continued. Now if I have "Circuit A" PCB from one company, I won't get another "Circuit A" PCB from another supplier, say a Marshall Guv'nor for example — unless there are enough mods/differences to warrant sating curiosity.
Really though, I'm just curious about what each circuit sounds like, so I buy what I want to try. Why not just build what I need/want, ie a few at a time and build them all then buy some more PCBs?
Too many times I've thought, "Oh I'll get that later" and then you don't make it back that way while on vacation, for example, or if you do then the shop is closed, the business has shut down, they're sold out, etc... For example, I kept putting off getting Madbean's Mood Ring, and then it was discontinued. Same for Moody Sounds' Mewtron — I could've/should've bought one of the last two kits in stock, but I thought they'd be restocked. So I'd rather regret not being able to build as often as I want than regret not being able to build what I want. I've learned a lot, yet have a lot more to learn, so I'm enjoying the hobby, and the potential that lies within it.
I've got more than 100 PedalPCB boards alone; and I've not even bought a single board from DeadEndFX yet, and they have many I want to try, same for Fuzz Dog, Moonn, MAS and a few other obscure PCB suppliers. Well this has droned on long enough. I had written in my head a succinct appraisal of my situation, somehow it lost its brevity in the telling.
Oh, there is one more thing...
Today as I searched for a B20k for my Valve Stem build, I found another half-dozen or so Aion PCBs squirrelled away that didn't make it into the pic.
