Looking at the Mammal schematic... Why the 1N5817 Schottky diode in the power section? Isn't that just a blocking diode for circuit protection? I'm sourcing parts for a build. Just wondered if I can use something else/something I may already have.
Schottky diodes have a lower forward voltage drop than a standard silicon rectifier diode (1N400x) ... The idea is to keep the 9V supply as close to 9V as possible.
Realistically though, in most cases it won't make a world of difference. I've used 1N4001 - 1N4007 with no negative side effects.
