Gibson Ultima?????

For that price, better off getting this Altima...

At least it's drivable — just make sure the OD is bufferless...

I think the guy just needs to intonate the guitar. It sounds just fine here.

i don't much care for the Heritage Cherry aka Clownburst finish and the depth of the figuring on the top is not as striking as it could be for the price. I also don't care for the over the top inlays either. I wouldn't call it Gibson's most expensive disaster however. That title is for the Firebird X. I don't think it deserved this though.

Altima's are the scourge of the road where I live and in many parts of the east coast. Ever heard of Big Altima Energy?

Also sounds like it's never had its oil changed ONCE

Gibsons are probably overpriced, there's no doubt, and they make some hideous guitars too, like anything in cherry sunburst. But it gets a bit tedious hearing Gibson bashing over and over again. They are an easy target because they make some very expensive guitars. If you can't afford them then rubbish them it seems - and I have been known to do that too.

But when you get a really good Gibson it is something to cherish. Are they perfectly finished? No. As far as I can tell they never have been - it's nothing new! But I have three Gibsons and each one is amazing to play and they all sound incredible. I only bought one of them new and that was because it is ridiculously rare. None is flawless. But when they feel as good to play and more importantly when they sound as good as they do then I couldn't care less. As they say - you don't play the finish.

Actually I guess I have four Gibsons. The USA Epiphone Casino I got early this year is really a Gibson. And it is flawless. The neck is as good as necks get, the action is perfect, and the sound is everything I could ever want it to be. Gibson make some killer pickups. So yes they make some ordinary guitars, but they also make some amazing guitars and that's just how they are. Don't buy the ones you don't like. That's always worked for me!

I think the Ultima is aimed at the PRS crowd, especially the dragon people. I'm not one who is into this type of gaudy flashy guitar, from any maker. I think every big name guitar maker makes overpriced ugly guitars, Gibson is no exception. Are they overpriced, maybe. Are some made with flaws, sure all makers have that. Bad marketing, without a doubt. But there are great deals to be had on some great playing, looking and sounding guitars. Having toured the custom shop before I can see why some of these guitars have the price tag they do, while some it's just because they know people will pay whatever they ask.
