Font talk

I have been spending some time making graphics using a laser engraver and the font rabbit hole is real! A graphic designer friend told me that there is such a thing as Google Fonts…

Anyways today I spent some time making a logo for my Son of Ben that’s a bit reminiscent of the Benson logo. It was fun. I’ll post pics of the finished build once I debug it (currently dead).

Got font questions? Typographic tribulations? Post them in this thread. There are lots of font nerds on this forum. Font talk is for the children

Let's kick things off with this. Anybody recognize the font in the title here? without all the coloring or whatever

The H is identical to the H from the Letraset Romic font family (also used in the Rockman logo, among other things). The rest doesn’t really bare much similarities at all, but it makes me suspect that the logo was assembled from a few different modified Letraset characters. Specifically I think the H is from the Romic family, e, r, Q, and o are from another font family, s and t from a third, and u possibly from a fourth.

Is comic sans really so bad? I think it gets an unnecessary bad rep.
It isn’t so bad in itself, but it’s so bad because it’s incredibly overused as a “fun” font, and it’s synonymous with bad graphic design.

Fun fact— I once saw a lawyers office that had the window sign in comic sans. I wasn’t too surprised to see that they had closed up by the next time I was in town.

Thanks. Perhaps I'll go with plan B in that case

Oh god why did you have to detail the differences from Romic - I've just gone absolutely crazy trying to ID the non Romic characters with absolutely no luck lmao

@Harry Klippton what's the intended use? You could always use Friz Quadrata if a Dungeons and Dragons connotation is close enough to what you're shooting for. Albertus and Korrina also can get similar vibes despite not being the actual logo typeface.

As a former designer, yes, it's terrible. When I got debaptized, the church sent me letters in Comic Sans. So that means we ain;t never gonna get rid of it.

Does anyone know these fonts? The second one is basically Futura, the first one eludes me. Must be some Letraset typeface from back in the day.
I tried the above tool and came up empty. I asked Ant Macari on Youtube and crickets.

Comic Sans has substantially The Watchmen's lettering in its DNA, which is pretty legit. Unfortunately, they added lowercase characters, fomenting a spaced-pairs shitshow, and its infamy is partially deserved.

If you want to identify a font, make a black on white image of it and use this tool:

A few EHX pedals have been discussed in the whatthefont forum. Usually it's determined that they started with an off-the-shelf font and made some tasteful changes. They probably used knives and tape. It's a little easier with Illustrator (and to a lesser degree Inkscape), with preferably a little pre-font-geek-out.

I've been on a quest for the perfect 60-70s technical/NASA font. Still having trouble finding free/opensource versions. Interesting info here
