NGD! So I finally broke down and bought a *IBSON! 7-18-23 Update

Ok, got a demo together this afternoon.

It was one of those days where I was waiting for paint to dry (literally hahah) between coats of nitro on my Strat re-fin project.

I spent the day mostly just jamming, revisiting some older pedals I haven't played in a while and just falling deeply headoverheels for my...........Chibson?? Like whodathunk?

I absolutely LOVE these new pickups I just installed. I'll put another plug here for Planet Tone www.planettone.com

Really nice folks too. Very reasonably priced made in the USA pickups. This set I got, the "Mean Mistreater" set look like mini-hums so it fits the gold top aesthetic well but tonally they lean more towards a set of vintage Firebird pickups (and a GOOD set).
I don't know what the actual construction is. Firebird and Mini-Hums are constructed differently.

There's great clarity and definition and a single coil vibe that just kills in the neck position. In fact it's the kind of vibe I've been searching for in a P90 neck pickup that I have yet to find. (Except for that vintage 55 Goldtop at Rumbleseat music hahaha).

I emailed them asking if any of their P90's have that same kind of vibe and Jose (I think he's the owner and pickup winder) responded very quickly and suggested one of their Elite Pro P90's with A2 magnets. For $69 it was a no-brainer to give it a try so I ordered one for my Faber Goldtop.

But back to the Chibson, I am still a bit amazed at the transformation of this guitar considering the condition it was in when it arrived. (See the beginning of this thread). It's been long enough that I've forgotten how much work I put into it :ROFLMAO: .

Right now it's playing like a dream and the tone with these pickups is just killer. I would never have thought to try some mini-hums if @Barry hadn't suggested it. So THANK YOU Barry.

Various pedals in the demo but I also revisited my XC Phase after installing a TL022 in the IC3 position which somehow fixed the ticking noise I still had in the Block mode.

Mmmm love the end of the demo! 😜

You'll be able to test your wah pedal with Jail Break, too.

Can't get enough, gotta listen to the whole track:

Idk I have a hard time with these “chibsons”. What you did with it is cool fixing it all up but I more just couldn’t buy one because of what they are I guess. Recently saw a les paul on Facebook market place for a pretty good but not unbelievable price. Went and check it out. It was a chibson, a person could easily have fallen for it. Which I think the person trying to sell it truly did they had bought it used for a decent used price and now we’re just trying to resell. Seems like having blatant fakes around doesn’t do anyone any good.

I get where you're coming from. Part of the reason I stayed away from them for so long. But honestly, having seen one in person, you'd really have to be a total noob and uninitiated to think any of these is a real Gibson. Too many tell tale signs even at a cursory glance.
And of course, if you're buying a used Gibson, if the price is too good to be true, it usually is.....heh.

You’d be pretty surprised what you can find that people sell stuff for. The pics weren’t good enough, to tell from I could tell very quick. But I’m sure some teenager out there thinking he’s getting a good deal…

Good friend of mine literally makes a living from buying guitars amps effects from Facebook offer up Craigslist etc and reselling them. Fixing when necessary. Most broken stuff ussually needs deoxit.

Anyways, just not for me I guess. :)

Well, took me a while to find some aluminum brackets for my pickups. I had to order some from China but they're really nice and work perfectly. I replaced my ghetto paint stir stick brackets that were stripping out (pine is too soft, should have used maple or some other hardwood).

Now I can fine tune the pickup heights much better. I'm calling this one "done". (again I think....hahaha)
