New from EHX. Andy Summers signature flanger pedal. Interestingly they make no mention of the Electric Mistress anywhere in the ad copy, but it is all-analog and styled after the EM, on top of the fact that it’s obviously what the circuit is since that’s the flagship EH flanger and the basis of so many of Andy’s classic tones.
Sounds nice, and it apparently comes with some sort of cool poster. Figured I’d share since I know there are other big Summers fans here too.

I saw a rumor on Reddit that the EMD was discontinued. Looks like the rumor was at least correct about the pedal…

Yeah, the EMD is listed as discontinued on the EHX site, plus it’s been out of stores for months afaik. This has the exact same control/hardware placement so it might be the exact same boards, just rebranded as a summers thing, though I’d hope it has a few differences to voice it more like the non-deluxe like Andy used in the Police days
 
Wow, I didn’t even know the Electric mistress existed until a few months ago (I knew the sound, but not the pedal) and I loved the MBP Current Lover so much that I am just finishing up a build of the Lectric-Fx Old Chap version.

But it is weird that the press release never once even hints that the Electric Mistress ever existed. That’s just odd. I get “Andy Summers signature electric mistress”. I don’t get “we basically just repackage the electric mistress that Andy Summers used but we’re gonna pretend that we’re not the same company that made the actual electric mistress“. It’s like they are Boss copying an EHX pedal and they don’t want to get sued.

Yeah, exactly what was weird about it to me. It’s not like EHX has a history of avoiding flagship product names in signature products— the j mascis big muff is still called a big muff. And I can’t imagine that Andy wanted to stay away from the Electric Mistress association, or else he wouldn’t have partnered with EHX for a signature pedal at all, and probably would’ve requested that it not have all of the visual hallmarks of an electric mistress. Only think that I could think of that makes sense is if they designed a completely original circuit for this pedal, but in that case why would they make it so it looks, sounds, and functions exactly how an electric mistress does…

It’s a decidedly odd choice, but it looks nice, sounds nice, and is priced right, so I don’t see a problem. Definitely making its way to my Christmas list… unless I wind up buying one in the fall and seeing if he’ll sign it when I see him in concert 😂
 
or it's new parts under the hood that are cheaper and easier to source than the prior iterations of the EM. The MBP and originals used mn 3007's and this batch might be 3207/3208's and the needed bits to boost headroom from the 9v up to what a 12v puts out.... until we see the guts can never really tell. And for the suggested price, not bad for a factory offering.

Apparently it's the same internally as the electric mistress.

See this Reddit post with a response from EHX Engineering which I assume is legit.
 
that's why I added "until we see the guts", stil la good price for somebody else assembling and more importantly, calibrating the bloody thing..
 
All that "same under-the-hood" malarky is completely bogus subterfuge, as it is actually a joint effort with Spin-Semi to soon debut the new super-micro SMD FV-2...

... basically an FV-1 shrunk down to the size of a THD dual op-amp, and they soldered it to the pot-side of the PCB to hide it. Anybody who orders one is basically a test-guinea-pig on the pre-release of the FV-2.

It's just an FV-1 emulation of an EM!

Oh, wow, that was fast. They still show as COMING SOON on sweetwater's site, but it's a Saturday....

I'll have to demo it when it gets here. Along with about a zillion other things.

O...M...G... Seems like *everything* that is expensive in my home broke last week. After 31 years of faithful service my Champion 3000SD swamp cooler main squirrel cage supports rusted out. BANG BANG BANG BANG. Replacement with new motor (might as well) is $650ish

The power switch on my hood over my stove had it's spot weld fail. And yadda yadda. I'm going to go bbq a burger, oh, wait, that's right the freakin' burners RUSTED OUT and they're $35 each + shipping and there's four of them.

I remember asking my mom right after I learned to read, "Why does it say 'when it rains it pours' on the side of the Morton Salt" She laughed and said "You'll understand some day baby". yup....

Oh well, it's only money......

Hey, yeah it got here late Friday evening. I was totally BEAT from the monsoon weather that we've had all week and was going to do pictures and samples on Saturday.

I ended up playing acoustic and singing until 2am Friday night and then at SIX IN THE MORNING the doorbell rings and all four of my Huskie's go full on 'call of the wild' howling.

And I'm like stunned, I'm thinking my sister died, or a cat got run over and I get to the front door and IT'S EFFING AMAZON DROPPING OFF THE HEATER I BOUGHT. ***AT SIX A.M. on SATURDAY MORNING***

"Are you effing kidding me" I thought to myself. I will NEVER buy anything from Amazon again. I took my BP afterwards and it was disturbingly high at 130/85. My normal is 105/60....

I am still recovering from the sleep interruption and the heat. At 67 years old I did NOT need that......

So, I'm getting there. I still feel dreadful. Thank you Amazon NOT....
 
Beyond first-world problems.

If you needed it right away for a mission critical job/business, you'd be lucky they delivered on a Saturday instead of on the following Monday or Tuesday.

That's a really nice looking pedal. I was getting tired of EHX's tacky cartoon graphics (Tone Corset, OD Glove, Overlord, etc.), and it's good to see the recent return to their more utilitarian look.
