Tascam to release new type ii cassettes next month

It won’t allow you to press play and record at the same time. And one of the belts is a close approximation of a replacement. It has trouble fast forwarding with a cassette in the dock. But it can without one.
It’s been years since I’ve tried any thing with this old girl.

It's reportedly not a very good formulation and/or maybe the same as the tascam reissue stuff. It's been a while and my mind is foggy on it. I've used NAC for cassette reproduction for releases though
I've seen some reports on that. Also wondered how much was unrealistic expectations. Only gonna get less badder without noise reduction. Maybe type IV will shown up one day.
I pushed a 1/4 teac 4 track and dbx unit out to the roadside about a year ago. Always wanted to get it fully working but never had the drive and wanted the sq footage back.

To be clear, I gave it away on craigslist (don't use Facebook), didn't toss it.
Could have sold them but both were given to me so figured pif.

There's a little metal tab on the upper right of where the top of the cassette would go. It's generally just a mechanical switch but if it's pooched it tells the system that the record lock tab has been punched out on the cassette and it won't let you press record.

@kristopher I just fixed the tape transport from a Tascam porta 05, which is the same transport as in the fostex x-15. It had a problem where the tape heads wouldn't engage the cassette, among other issues. I completely disassembled it, cleaned the dried out lubricant, added new lubricant, and replaced belts. I also had to reshape a metal spring that helps raise the head block assembly

My Fostex is over an hour away. I am in the process of moving. Half of my stuff is here, the other half there.
The next time I get a few minutes with it, I’ll start looking at the transport. But I may have a ton of questions.
For instance, where do I get new belts?
