What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Well, it's more like, what's NOT in the mailbox.

Dude..............FedEx has been chaffing my balls, roughly, VERY roughly. 3 separate orders, from 3 different vendors/sellers, all didn't have an option for me to choose my preferred shipping, all went with FedEx. Package #1 was supposed to be delivered last Saturday, got it yesterday. Packages #2 supposed to be delivered Monday, bounced between 2 citites in IL, then sat in Chicago for over 24hrs, is apparently "coming" today. Package #3 had endless operational delays, still waiting.

Oh and this gem!

I live in WI........the fuck did it go from MA to fucking San Fuckin Cisco for?!?!?! "Arriving late"......yeah no shit Sherlock. My damn package is taking a vacation

Ya gotta complain to each of the three vendors, because they must be made to understand their customers need OPTIONS and that the vendors' non-option of Fed-Expressly @$%^#&*-up isn't working in their, or their customers', favour.

I'm loathe to order from any company that doesn't let the customer choose the shipping-path-of-least-incompetence, but the problem is customers don't know there's not option 'til they're already in the "checkout" digital aisle.

I hope you get your packages soon.

pouch of onions? what in the hobo dinner are you doing?

Hey, isn't that Brendan (right) from the Raconteurs?

I feel like I've outgrown my Mission Engineering 529i so I'm going to use it instead for a bass rig board and I picked up one of these monsters for my guitar pedalboard. It should arrive today and I'll tear my board apart...again.

Got the same, excellent choice! Being a desktop user, I also felt the design made the choice easy to go for this one instead of the hide-under-the-pedalboard selection at the store. Had hoped to use the AC out in some way (outside of daisy-chaining a second unit), but haven't got a device suitable for this, as 1,6A is too low for most things that come with such a plug.

I know that Pedalhacker has had some difficulties fulfilling orders, but they underwent some changes are seem to be working well. This is a recent order. The BA282’s are measuring forward voltages of 0.89 and the 1S1588 at 0.63. The diode sampler is a nice mix. Two of them may be defective, but I am not worried. I don’t know what many of the diodes are, but the measurements look good.

If you are needed obscure parts, I would give them a chance. They had some MA856 diodes that tempted me, but it was hard to justify the cost.

RE: AC OUT

- Aion's legacy L5 Preamp — the build doc makes no mention of mA drawn, nor of whether the adapter's pin should be centre-negative...

- Craig Anderton's AC-powered Practice Amp — as found in his Projects for Guitarists book (can be found online)

- MadBean's UberTuber requires an 18v AC wall-wart: https://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-ECB004-Adapter-18V-Barrel/dp/B0002E3FBK?th=1
It's not clear from the description what it puts out. I zoomed in on the adapter and it says Output 15v, but it doesn't say if it's AC or DC.

I recall there being some Delays or Flangers that were AC-powered, and definitely some other Tube-based HV builds (all DIY) that were AC-based (Grind Custom's STM800?).

Probably won't be able to find many AC-based DIY projects these days.

AC doesn't have a negative...?
Well, it does, but briefly.

In addition to the projects @Feral Feline mentioned, there are a handful of projects from DeadEndFX that use AC power supplies.
I put this data together a few months ago, so there might be some newer projects also using AC, but…

Here's why I had to buy some more compartmentalized boxes... 🙈

There's two PedalPCB Pussy Melters boards and twp Pareidolia boards in there. And also two DBA Echo Dream II kits (Fuzz Dog). Another dual gang / dual mono build. This box will also contain a Boss Tera Echo PCB that I took out of a battered pedal for cheap, for some additonal stereo play. So yeah, this one's like the demented sibling to the psychedelic dual Low Tide + Dimension C that I am also building these days (some of the ICs for that build are in this pile somewhere).

Also, also... It looks like I have to at those "rocket sockets" with some sandpaper before using them. There's some nasty rough edges to them, which is crazy, as these are sold as to put pedals together scratch free... 🤷‍♂️

I got a really cool box of stuff today from @Guardians of the analog. There's a whole mountain of germanium transistors, some cool diodes I haven't seen before, a set of Seymour Duncan antiquity IIs and an extra tele neck pickup, enough solder sucker tubing for the rest of my life, a bias probe socket, and a cardinal tremolo pedal. I've been bummed with the slow recovery from breaking my hand and this is giving me a boost to get back to working on some stuff!
