What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

A friend snagged me a dinky Presonus Eris pair, so monitors are set for now. They sound pretty good in my yet untreated room- pumping the EZdrums and guitar through them made me realize I've got the bass turned up way too high on the Twin emulator.

As for reverb plugins- I'm not a huge fan of most reverbs. If anyone is familiar with the Dynamic Ambience block in the Line 6 Helix ecosystem and has a suggestion for a standalone alternative to that, I'd love to hear it.

And for workbench relevance, a buncha shit I need to box. Most of this is duplicates from recent commissions, so nothing terribly exciting. The Fuzzdog pickup simulator and THC five band eq are pretty nifty and might make their way to my test/ demo setup 1000034149.jpg

I really don’t get it.

It doesn’t take long to get 95% organized with a few things laying around? This looks immaculate compared the chaos I surround myself with.
No, it's not messy. Just getting it back on topic.

Today, I'll probably be doing more in the paint and lazor than actually at the bench while I wait for the commission project's board to come in.

On the workbench: this AionFX ODR-C that switches bypass but won’t make a sound.

I’m thinking I have an issue, and it’s the j113s aren’t pinned out correctly or I’m missing something. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the past 3 pedals haven’t worked at all.

doesn't take long for it to end up like this

also borrowing a friend's DL4
DAMN that's a clean looking bench!

I posted a pic elsewhere of the embarrassing pigsty that is mine, and with good intentions was to clean it up.
Sad to say it's now yet more embarrassing — so much so I won't post a current pic.

What’s on my “workbench”…

Coolant is good. So why'd it overheat, first time for me ever?

IMG_0605.jpeg

The 383 fires right up with this borrowed battery, so why isn’t my battery taking a charge and starting the motor?

It's not what's on the "workbench" that's interesting, rather ...

Hey what’s that noise under the engine? Damn squirrels — no wait, not … flock of sparrows?
[looks under car, t'weren't a fouled plug, but a plug of fowls I chased out from under and onto the lawn]

IMG_0645.jpeg

Ten ducklings in all (some hidden by mom, in the pic). It's been a week since I've worked on the car... when did they get in [EDIT & "HOW?"] the garage & what did they live off? There's no water in the garage apart from what's in the radiator...

Coming soon, to underneath an engine-block near you

Did they build a nest in the engine bay?

Did they steal the water pump and alternator belt?

OK, so here's one of my basement workbenches, just not my electronics bench.
I just completed setting up a really solid woodworking workbench w/ a proper wood vise + bench dogs.
The workbench is from Global Industrial, bought on a major sale.
Solid hardwood top, with strong metal legs - will support more than 2 tons...
I modified it by adding the bench dog holes, additional leg stabilization, and properly finished the birch top.
For the vise, I bought the metal parts, but built the wood jaws & the mount.
And I put a nice layer of non-marring 1/16" silicone rubber on both wood jaw faces.
It came out really sweet.

Thermostat?
Nope, don't think so.

I should explain the conditions...
Hot day, downslope at idle speed in a local parade right near the start — suddenly temp went above what I've done in the same parade a few years running. Previously the route was in reverse of current direction, when the start was a long slow climb up a steep hill and I had no problems, even though it still got hot of course.

This year, I pulled out of the parade just after the start 'cause what was in the puke tank was boiling hotter than lava in an exploding volcano — right after we pulled out heading home and got a breeze in her sails she calmed right down.

I don't understand why she was boiling over when it was a MUCH easier start to the parade than previous years. Just as well, our ChowChow was boiling already, too.

Pre-ChowChow, parade-people would look and point "Look at the size of that car!" (it's longer than most station wagons, but only a 2-door).
Then we brought the Chow, and "OOooh look at the Doggy" — the HUGE car became invisible.
We got her some eye-protection after last year's parade and now people point and say "Look at the cool doggles!"
Now the dog's near invisible, upstaged by eyewear.

I found a few motor-mount bolts loose and the trans bell-housing, so I think they were preparing to heist the whole engine — pretty good cover, I'd say...
Ducklings: "Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep"
Translation: "We're just some innocent wee itty bitty ducklings... we weren't doin' nuttin'!"

If I'd been quicker with my phone-camera I might've caught them in the act, still under the car.

your fan clutch might be going out? Radiator might need flushed or replaced?
Maybe the water pump impeller is so corroded it’s not moving coolant like it should?

Just a few things off the top of my head to look into.

Excellent suggestions, Paradox916!

Rad is fairly new, the added fan-shroud certainly helped (mods my Dad did). I'll check all those and CyberCow's thermostat suggestion, too.

I love this pedal forum, it's a gas!

Sticky thermostat is a pretty common issue, replacing that is never a bad idea.. did you check your dip stick and oil cap for coolant contamination after the over temp?

If you're sure about the thermostat, I'd check the fan and/or it's sensor. The fan might not be engaging when it should.
