What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Be careful with plugins, they are addictive like pedals. One day you look and have 50 of them!

That said, there are a bunch of good free ones available like the Valhalla reverbs and delay. They sound amazing.
Valhalla is amazing! my favorite reverb by far. everything you could ever want from a reverb and more. After I found that I stopped trying to build reverb pedals… definitely one of the best free plugins out there.

eventide blackhole for reverb plug in

Yesterday I demolished an old slide in camper which yielded a bunch of .050 3003 aluminum and a few square feet of diamond plate.

Using a Boss volume pedal as a rough template I cut this treadle for a Tearjerker Wah build.

Wrapped up refreshing this 73 Silverface Champ. New caps all around, tubes, biased, new power cord, and some grounding work. Owner didn’t want it cleaned up as he liked the dirty look it’s had since it’s been sitting in his basement for almost 20 years. It could definitely use a new speaker though.

Not sure how much this will help, but I've attached drawings of all the parts for a Boss wah - the top plate sits inside the recess for the rubber tread, the smaller end plate sits in the recess for the name badge, and the bottom plate covers the entire base.

Top/end plates have a couple of holes in the corners for 3mm rivets which are optional.

When I got Cubase and the Waves "Mercury" bundle over a decade ago. With over a 200 plugins in that bundle alone, one would think there would be little else to desire. It took me an additional 100 odd-n-end plugins to figure out the Waves "Mercury" bundle was actually enough. Till I discovered 60 or so synth, sampler and drum plugins. I think "addiction" is a cute word for it. Rather and more to the point, it's actually a subjugation. 🫠

That’s a $200 plugin vs a free one that is pretty comparable, why are you gonna pitch that to someone just starting out with a DAW?
Ehhh I feel like Valhalla Supermassive is not really comparable to the Blackhole, but then I also feel like the Blackhole is sort of a... one trick pony? Let's say "limited trick pony". It's really good at what it does, but it's not that versatile. I'd rather have VVV or something if I had to pick one paid plugin. That being said, I do have it, and it's often $30 on sale, buuut I still think someone getting into DAW's should not buy many plugins.

Personally I also don't like Waves much, sure the bundles are good value, but you either won't get updates or will have to pay for support eventually, and not all of them are that great either.

I paid $69 for my license. Watch the sales.

Reverb in a guitar chain is a sure fire way to annoy a professional engineer.
I seriously doubt anyone building pedals pays hundreds an hour for a studio and an engineer and if you do, why do you want to piss them off?
There should not be a bunch of different reverberation sources in a recording.

That said, I want something that grabs tones and hangs them in the air. Ambience with verisimilitude is a job of the engineer, not the guitarist.
So if it's both you, switch hats.

Blackhole is a *synthesizer* that uses your signal as an oscillator. It is also a hardware pedal.

And for what it is worth, I demonstrated that I at least read the goddamn thread before dropping my own non sequitur in here.

I have run into few ad hominem attacks here. I'm here to share and learn and enjoy connection.

Negative reaction to ad hominem attack is butthurt?

Never once did I say the product mentioned is "the best" "the only" "your choice is stupid" but it sure got read that way. Again.
