Post your stereo setups

I'm curious about your stereo rigs, or rig ideas. Especially those that don't necessarily use amplifiers at the end. Some examples (graphic) of the effects chain are recommended. I've been playing around with stereo lately and looking for interesting ideas. Below is my current setup. I can use it as a mono or stereo set, depending on the headphone amplifier setting. The IR loader has a Latency knob that allows for the nice, short delay between channels. Once you play it for a while it's hard to go back to mono :)

Mine might not be as interesting for this topic because it’s always with a two amp setup. I put each amp on opposite sides of our jam space.

The first is the most recent one I did (last weekend). I used the ppcb splitter to drive both sides of the duo-phase.

The 2nd one is a larger setup and includes a diagram, but the only stereo aspect of it is the mimiq.

One time I used a ppcb mecurial boost with a y-cable to drive both amps.

Otherwise, I do stereo with a Line6 DL4 mkII, with a preset for each program change I send from my loop switcher.

I had a pretty basic bitch stereo setup before I tore it down for a rehab that we’ve been doing on our house (just finished!). The Ox Stomp/Box does a pretty good emulation of a cab recording in a stereo setup.

So main board into amp, and then amp into the Ox.

I have since bought a Ox Box, will likely buy another, and plan to dual or triple amp. My plan is to end the main board with Strymon Volante, use its stereo out to a couple of amps. On the stereo board I’ll use a couple of Pedal PCB triple mixers, or I have a small stereo mixer I could use too.

I agree it’s hard to go back to mono from stereo headphones or a stereo monitor setup.

I run a wet/dry/wet setup, so.. surround sound? lol I have a splitter after my Drives that sends one clean/overdriven signal to my center amp. Then the other signal goes to my pitch, delay, and reverb, looper, then goes out stereo to my left/right amps. This gives me more options for ambient/huge reverbs and delays with a clean signal underneath for clarity so I don’t get to mushy in the mix

I don't really understand the allure of a stereo setup. I have tried on a couple occasions to make it work and it always felt like it was more hassle and the ends didn't justify the means. Part of this is because I don't feel most pedals translate well to a stereo field. Most modulation gets split between wet and dry so that's not super sexy. Then delay is often just bouncing between left and right. Most pedals just become double mono. There are lots of opportunities for added noise, impedance issues, ground loops, phasing issues and let's just be real...it only sounds good in headphones. The one effect I think shines is Leslie/rotary/panner. That is truly the only way to make that effect realistic.

I also assume most of the stereo rigs are in headphones since they lose their depth once you go through a cab. In a live setting it just seems unnecessary and would probably be muddy sounding if not dialed in perfectly, not that anyone in a live setting could probably tell. I would much rather play a good sounding mono rig through a cab any day. But then again what do I know, I feel like I'm running a complex rig with two pedals in front of an amp and 4 in the effects loop🤡🤡🤡

I see the appeal in both. For a casual jam, I can carry my mono rig in one trip. It’s simple, it sounds good.

But when I practice with my band, stereo all the way. It’s in a room, and it’s an obvious difference. Dealing with impedance and ground loops is not that complicated. You have to be aware of that same stuff in mono rigs too.

Since we’re in a stereo thread, I’m sure there’s plenty of help available for those who have specific issues trying to make it work.

The thing I don’t get is big guitar amps. Guitar amps are made to be punished, and used as a source for feedback.

If I can’t dime it, I ain’t got time for it.

When I want more volume, why would I want it all coming from the same highly directional source? Running dual mono with two smaller amps and spreading the sound around is better than a boat anchor that sounds like it’s got a LP filter set to 700Hz for anyone who’s not directly in front of it.

Do you boo 🥰

Amps > 30W:

Attenuators. There are great ones available to buy or build.

Everything else equal - historically, higher watt amps are higher voltage, so generally more headroom, and better bass response. You lose some sonic complexity going from a quad to a pair of power tubes as well, etc. Even if lower volume is a key concern - a 100 watt amp is only slightly louder than a 50 watt amp.

It has to be said, everyone in this thread is a different use case. There is no one size fits all solution and thank fucking god. That would be boring.

My use case is rocking out at home. This is what my audience looks like normally:

As someone who plays exclusively through headphones this is something that everyone who plays a stereo rig eventually learns
yeah. After reading this thread I no longer have any doubts about it :)
I need to digest this first...

Here's what I have currently.

Guitar > wah > tuner > Carl Martin switcher (8 loops) > SDE3000 which splits the signal in 3.

1 signal goes to amp 1 (dry)

The other 2 go into stereo in the Qunitessence > Mimiq > Reverb > Rotary > amp 2 & 3 (wet L & wet R)

So it is wet / dry / wet. Or if I don't turn on the middle amp it is stereo. Or if I don't turn on the left and right amp, it just mono.

Duuuuude that Star Wars one with the aurebesh looks sick. What circuit is in there?
