Ok here it is- a real contest with a defined prize. Build a big muff that doesn't suck.

You must post a sound clip and it must be a new build. I'll be judging the entries on how clean the build is, the graphic design, and the sound clip. It will be a subjective judgment. I will make the sole decision whether your big muff sucks or not. The main goal is to build and post something that I, Harry Klippton, think sounds good. Participation in the Player Hater's Ball Contest will disqualify you from the Contest of the Summer prize. Winner gets a $25 gift code.

The contest starts now and will close on August 15. That's plenty of time to order parts, build, and record something. the prize will be dispersed after the PHB contest closes.

Thread 'Kewp - PedalPCB Kewpie Fuzz'

This is actually my first PedalPCB build... very strange to actually put that into words, given how long I've been here 😂. This is the Kewpie Fuzz, and boy does it sound good! I (half) joked to some friends that this is like a muff you can actually get good sounds out of. Eminently tweakable, and just downright great.

Put together a second Kewpie Fuzz for a friend who tried the first one I made and absolutely loved it.

I originally pitched it to him as "a big muff that's actually usable," and don't apologize. Later, as he was experimenting, I called it 'pumpkins in a box,' and between his and my covering the hits, he really started to dig it. I decked this one out in black, as he wanted a more monochromatic look and feel for it, but still retaining the design I had come up with.

The Keeley Rotten Apple/Sour Grape Fuzz is the answer to your big muff problems. It has the right amount of gain, a tone pot as well as a switch, and more attack than the big muff. Here's mine

I build a lot but don't box a lot, I don't know if that speaks more for my taste in pedals or the pedals themselves. In any case, I boxed this one!

Thanks to @HamishR for enlightening me to this Muff variant. I'm not a huge Muff fan, I value what they do and enjoy the tones but they don't gel with my playing style. He recommended the Basic Audio Alter Destiny for me to try out, and I was really happy with it. Essentially, it's a Muff with an added Mid and Fat (bass) control. I changed the second pair of clipping diodes (in the third gain stage) for BAT42s and was immediately sold...
