Boss PX-1?

Probably just go for a used Eventide H9 if I was in the market for pedal-based digital multi-fx.

But as it is, I use my iPad for that kinda stuff 🤷‍♀️

I've been tempted by the Eventide H9 but whenever I think about it I remind myself of the Eventide Rose I had. It was actually very good - I had a Timefactor I received by mistake when I ordered a cheaper delay online once and they sent the wrong one! The Timefactor sounded good as did the Rose, but the lack of depth on the sound of the repeats got to me. I assume the H9 would have a similar sound? When I compared the Rose's sound with other delays I realised that the repeats sounded a bit lightweight in comparison. That would probably be a good thing in a lot of cases but for how I use delays (clumsily and artlessly) it didn't sound as good.

I actually like the concept of the TC Plethoras but would like a Plethora 2. TC must hate people like me - they make a 1, a 3 and a 5. Nope, I want a 2.

I built a sort of half-assed "Impossible Pedal" using the FV-1.... Assuming you're referring to that weird Belew pitch shifter thing a few years back?

Indeed.

Big Belew fanboy here.

I'm not the only one; somebody worked out a patch for an H90...

I'm down for you putting up a half-assed or otherwise-assed "Impossible Pedal".
@Bricksnbeatles might be another purchaser of such a project-PCB if proffered.

It’s got so many very tweakable delays that I think it would do any sound you want.
As a bass player I didn’t play with delays much - and found a lot of the effects felt very guitar based tonally - like quite a few of them could have done with a HPF to cut the bottom end for bass guitar …
But I guess if you were putting synth through it that wouldn’t be desirable

I'm an Eventide slut so consider the source here, but: IIRC, the Rose has a completely different architecture than the H platform stuff. I love the H9/H90 delay algos too, I gotta say.

Oh hell yes, I gotta scope this. Thanks for mentioning!

There is a global setting for Instrument type (Guitar/bass/synth bass/synth lead) but I haven't messed with this much on my H9s so I can't speak to how well it works.

I WILL emphasize that one of the unfortunate shortcomings of the H9 is its inability to set line-level input/output (hence the queen Suzanne Ciani having her H9s customized to do so among other mods). The H90 does have this setting, tho!

Boss marketing team:

“Hey guys remember when everyone hated us and ran to “ boutique” pedals?… l have an idea let’s do that again.” Disappointing…

to be fair to them ... if they release another 30 pedal models for this at reasonable prices each - maybe it will catch on?

oh man, I sold mine after having it a year - it liked it's gain level set right, and didn't like massive jumps up or down in gain!
It took me a while to find the gain control on the app too - for the first 6 months I was like "mod factor just isn't good and doesn't seem to work properly"
then I was like "oh mod factor works, but just not this pedals strong point on bass"

The iStomp would've allowed me to have this:

People tell me to get one online used... but meh... sucks to have tech that can't withstand the test of time.
I had the issue of Guitar Player magazine from when this was first announced. I think it might have been what made me first look up Belew. I fell in love with his playing and that effect that day. I watched his demo of that pedal, and then King Crimson’s live performance of Elephant Talk on “Fridays”

Release it! Release it! Release it! Sign me tf up for this one! I’d build like 5 of them.

You know it 😍😍😍

I first heard Belew on Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti , but didn't know it.
I was heavily into Talking Heads so heard him all over Remain In Light, as well.
It wasn't until The Bears first album, though, that I became truly AWARE of Belew himself and made the conscious connection to my addiction of his stellar mastery of sonic manipulations.

Would be so much better to build an FV-1 that comes close to the Impossible Pedal than to suffer through outdated & antiquated software/hardware connections trying to get an old iStomp to work...
