What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

The Mutron II has been my favorite phaser for a long time, so I thought I'd give it the treatment. Put a PCB together with the Attiny1616 sine wave LFO and some other tricks. I've got high hopes for this one.

Some LEDs and LDRs are on the UPS truck, so I hope to get some more experimenting done this week and get some of these designs off to the fab house.

V9 / 'NYC' Big Muff. (per kit rae schematic)
- no one really seems to bother with this one so I went to try it out.
- actually pretty good.
- grinds, crunches, it's fat. i'm down.

I've since tried the rev C version, and I reckon it's even better:

JPTR FX Warlow ➡️ Cleric Fuzz
- it's alright.
- plenty of burl and grind. tone control was a bit of a bummer.
- it's good, but i preferred the og V5/opamp muff in an A/B comparison.

Sola Sound Yellow Hybrid Tone Bender ➡️ Marigold Fuzz
- yo dawg i heard you like velcro fuzz
-
this thing is so sticky, i'd be more inclined to call it a tar pit fuzz.
- did the things and got Q3c (MP38A, ~60hfe/~.100 leak) biased to around 3V, for D1 tried a few options and settled on a D9E.
- i heard some say this is more like a big muff than a bender? not sure im getting much muff vibe.
- really wanted to like this but i just don't.
this demo is awful, i wasn't gonna share it, but i've decided it's important to highlight even the turds to promote acceptance that not all of em can be bangers.
having said that, it's probably my fault that it sucks and the circuit is fine but whatever i tried

On the workbench now: New graphics for some old pedals.

I have a bunch of pedals that I built a few years back and with most of them I’d never been happy with the graphics. I tried water slides first but the quality wasn't great and the prints always looked dull. I tried cutting vinyl labels on the cricut, but that was really limited and tedious. It got to a point where I wasn’t bothering with graphics.

I finally got around to redoing the artwork and had UV DTF labels by Ninja Transfers, and I’m really impressed by how good the UV prints look. The quality makes the enclosures look (almost) professional.

Here are the ones I’ve done so far. There's a bunch more to do.

One thing I’m having a hard time with is getting clear waterslides off of some of my enclosures, so if anyone has any tips for doing that please pass them along!

If you didn't clear coat the waterslides you may try soaking them in warm water

Always enjoy the demos!
appreciate that 🤟
It's a muff with the diodes removed and omitting the last recovery gain stage
that's right, and yet, the sound in this one was very departed from a muff sound.
probably should have tried a few more different transistors, but i'm not sure it would have changed a whole lot.

that supa tone bender muff clone looks like a good time though

There's also the Supa Tone Bender, that is a straight muff copy(schematicly), only ommiting the first stage diodes
That's a different circuit than the Yellow Hybrid Tonebender that @owlexifry had on the breadboard. The Yellow Hybrid has a front end that is essentially identical to the first two gain stages of the Jumbo Tone Bender and Supa Tone Bender. The third gain stage is similar to Q3 in a Tone Bender Mk. III. The tone stack is a Big Muff tone stack with weird values. So it's topographically more of a muff than a Tone Bender, but as @owlexifry noted, it sounds more like a particularly Mk. III than a muff.

I glazed right past that common emitter setup. That's what I get for looking on my phone.
Thanks for the correction.
When in doubt, ask Pedal Builder
