What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

A couple that are getting closer to completion. Acetylene AC30 in a box, Tommy III, and a Glory Hole. The Ace is for me, the other two for my son. I’m not finished with the paint on the first, but the other two are ready for graphics and labels.

I ordered the wrong size DC jacks on accident and am now the owner of 30 2.5mm center pin jack with no purpose. I’m going to stop by the local electronics shop tomorrow morning to see if they have the correct ones before I order more online.

I also got the mini chicken head knobs for the Ace, but the pots on top are just barely too close together. Plan B for those as well. At least the knobs can get used on a future build.

Trying another experiment with roundwounds on this bass:

CMB_2016_1.jpg

Thus time it's the Victor Wooten Pure Blues set, which are noodles at .040-.095. Oddly enough, they make my formerly polite jazz/Americana vibe bass sound and feel a lot like my rude old Travis Bean, which makes me want to bust out some old originals. Could be a good excuse for a new onboard preamp build too...LOL! I think I even have a new set of three band boards on hand that I've never tried, ruh roh.

Wanting to recap an old Clairtone T7 and thought I'd start with the phono preamp ... the electros are buried deep under everything. Might not be that bad if I clip the leads at the terminals.

Those are two nice GE 2N508 in there!

Got this in for repair . . . . .

An Electro Harmonix EH-8000 Guitar Synth. One of 25 that survived the original build of 50.
Definitely needs a full re-cap to start with. Lot of cleaning too.

That is so much cleaner than the ones I've worked on! Well... inside anyway.

Also, not sure about the production numbers, this version isn't even the first variant of the circuit, these came over a year later.

These showed up yesterday in the mail. Adam Asmus from ToneHatch is quickly becoming my favorite pickup winder.
Nevermind the fact that they are super affordable, they just ROCK. My current fave vintage output PAF's are from ToneHatch. They've replaced the Gibson T-styles that were originally in my ES-335. And now I'm also rocking a set in my Les Paul.

I've gone down the road a couple of times trying out a set of "Gilmour inspired" strat pickups and just never found the sound I was looking for.
(Including a set of rather pricey ones).

I decided to have Adam make up a custom set for me. These really have come pretty close to Gilmour's tone in terms of the guitar itself. Everything else comes from his amps. effects and of course his hands.

The neck and middle pickups are from the ToneHatch "Spoonful" set. Which is his mid-scooped set a la SRV, John Mayer, Mark Knopfler, etc.
Mine came in at 5.44k and 5.68k respectively. The bridge pickup is from his "Glowing Embers" set which is his super high output set. I got it with flat poles. I also had him bump the bridge pickup up to 13.3k to match the output of the Seymour Duncan SSL5 that was in Gilmour's Blackie in its last iteration before being auctioned.

The whole set is surprisingly balanced considering the wide spread in output. And in position 2 (middle & bridge) with a Fuzz Aldriin and an Electric Mistress and cranked reverb puts you into some serious Gilmour tone territory.

I can't say enough good things about working with Adam and about his pickups. I would highly recommend any of his Strat sets or his hum buckers. I don't have experience with his Tele or P90's but plan to try them. I also really want to try his "Hippie Stews" strat set which is a '69 style set.

I've posted about his presentation before but still love seeing this level of care...

My "off board grounding" method for Strats is a potentiometer-saver with the frequency of my pickup changes haha.
The pots never get heated up for pickup changes.

And of course these pickups were destined for MY "Blackie".......:)

That bass is pretty. I’m a sucker for that mahogany/sapele/bubinga orange-y brown.

/looks at collected guitar bodies that need to be turned into guitars
/shakes fist at space-time continuum
Not obvious from the pic, but that bass is a neck-through with a one piece sapele body. I made a lot of extra work for the builder calling for those specs. ;)

I got some prototype PCBs ordered and I'm just tweaking a few values. I gotta say I'm loving this optical version of Maggie-style vibrato.

This version uses an amber LED and some LDRs shut up together in that black box.

I'm going start figuring out how to put one of these Attiny1616 chips to work in an LDR matching fixture. I've got a good idea how I want to set it up.

It was cold and rainy here yesterday and the wife is sick so I got 3 pedals knocked out in the backlog. Aion Fusion (Suhr Riot), Celeritas (Lightspeed) and Cirrus (Ibanez ST-9). All 3 of these turned out nice and sound good.

This was my first time (as a hobbyist) using Kester 331 solder and rinse/washing for cleaning. It isn't quite as nice as 44/245 as far as solder behavior, but I'll take it for the results and time saved with IPA/remover cleaning.

Shout out to @Audandash for sharing the Aion I/O board gerber - I'm putting that to good use and the PCB makes these builds go quite a bit faster. The JST headers and cables are another part of making these builds less of a burden.

These look really nice. I've been heading towards an IO board for my builds too - I need to settle on a DC Power jack,

Gonna scrap and collect valuables, but at same time it’s a shame considering how nicely this whole organ has been built.

Malmsjö/Viscount c.110 made in 1971. Highlights are:
-12” speaker AND Leslie
-full of PNP transistors (si+ge)
-there’s inductor for a wah too
-contains a spring reverb unit (specs yet 404)
-bunch tropical fish caps there too with aged carbon resistors

Replaced one 5uF e-cap before trying it and it turned on and made sound, but there’s problems with almost all switches and leslie is barely audible. Played it for a while, but hard to see more value in repairing it than gutting it for spareparts. There’s no exact specs or no schematic available and it doesn’t even have 3-prong cord/safe gnd connection.
