What is this diode?

A friend of mine ended up with a crap ton of random electronic components. While digging through it, I found a couple of SYL SR6723 parts. The Google machine says they’re Sylvania germanium diodes but when I measured them the forward voltage was 0.622 which seemed high for germanium.

I grabbed a couple anyway because they looked cool and we all know that is where at least 87% of the toanz come from.

Thanks!

It looks like a silicon diode (there isn't the whisker and pellet setup that you usually see in a germanium diode). My Google searches suggest that it's a Sylvania equivalent to NTE116, which in turn is equivalent to the 1N400x family of rectifier diodes.
