I’m blaming @Guardians of the analog for this one. After chatting with him and seeing his Collosalus build, I was having some serious FOMO. Especially after hearing Chris talk about how good it sounded going through his Marshall style amp. There was no way I gonna miss out so, at that moment, I jumped on the @bean website and bought a pcb. I’m definitely glad I did too because it’s better than I remember. I built one of these back in 2022 and while I really liked it, I wasn’t necessarily in love with it either. Add to the fact that someone hit me up wanting to buy it from me, and the cash offer was more than I could say “no” to at the time. Well… That’s definitely not going to be the case this time and this one is staying in my collection.

Build wise, it was pretty straightforward. Although, I made a mistake and soldered the clock cap into the wrong wholes at first. I discovered this when I initially fired it up and it wasn’t sweeping. I started pointing fingers at an LFO problem but, a quick review of the build documentation pointed out that I’m an idiot and soldered shit in the wrong place. Speaking of clock capacitors… I went with a 33pF to achieve my overall frequency range. While the cap was labeled 33pF it actually only measured 28pF so, the fast end of the frequency is hotter than it should be. Overall range on my build is 35mHz to 1.5gHz but, It still sounds great at those speeds so, I’m not gonna mess with it. Per the discussions Chris had with @Scruffie , I also did the r8/r27 resistor value changes on my build and it definitely makes a difference. I also need to give a shoutout to GOTA for sending me an original mojo filled MN3007. I don’t typically buy into the “mojo parts” BS but, this flanger is a little more special to me because of it.

Aesthetically, it’s just a grey Tayda 1590BB2 with a generic graphic of a cave monster. The name “Collaslus” makes me think of Colossal Cave out here in Tucson so, I ran with what a Colossal Cave monster might look like.
