I had to build this circuit because I love my Wampler Plexi and I enjoy most of Wampler's offerings. I usually like the various "Marshall-in-a-box (MIAB) overdrive and distortion pedals. It is an easy build and the end result of the build is very smooth OD that can switch to aggressive harmonic distortion. No op-amps and very few parts - just three J201s.
I am going to put this one on my board next to the PPCB Nobelman. I did zero adjustments to the three internal trimmers because it sounded terrific on the PPCB auditorium platform. Maybe it could sound even better if I adjusted the trimmers? If it pleases my ear straight away I leave the trimmers alone. The toggle (bass boost) switch causes a very noticeable tone change and toggles in and out of some pleasing distortion. I love the tone and it sounds exactly like my Wampler Plexi.
The enclosure is a ball silver Tayda 125b. I used the Wampler graphic and a PPCB top jack plate. This is a film-free decal and I find they work great on smooth surfaces. The top of the pedal was sprayed with Spraymax 2k gloss clear. The knobs are blue anodized aluminum. Inside there is a Taiway short bat SPDT toggle switch. a soft click footswitch and two Switchcraft jacks.
If you are a fan of OD and you are thinking of building one, do it; IMO it is a top ten overdrive/distortion pedal.
