PedalPCB Acrylic/Wampler Plexi 125b

OD is Glorious

I had to build this circuit because I love my Wampler Plexi and I enjoy most of Wampler's offerings. I usually like the various "Marshall-in-a-box (MIAB) overdrive and distortion pedals. It is an easy build and the end result of the build is very smooth OD that can switch to aggressive harmonic distortion. No op-amps and very few parts - just three J201s.

I am going to put this one on my board next to the PPCB Nobelman. I did zero adjustments to the three internal trimmers because it sounded terrific on the PPCB auditorium platform. Maybe it could sound even better if I adjusted the trimmers? If it pleases my ear straight away I leave the trimmers alone. The toggle (bass boost) switch causes a very noticeable tone change and toggles in and out of some pleasing distortion. I love the tone and it sounds exactly like my Wampler Plexi.

The enclosure is a ball silver Tayda 125b. I used the Wampler graphic and a PPCB top jack plate. This is a film-free decal and I find they work great on smooth surfaces. The top of the pedal was sprayed with Spraymax 2k gloss clear. The knobs are blue anodized aluminum. Inside there is a Taiway short bat SPDT toggle switch. a soft click footswitch and two Switchcraft jacks.

If you are a fan of OD and you are thinking of building one, do it; IMO it is a top ten overdrive/distortion pedal.

Very well done on the innards. I judge my own work very harshly, and I would be satisfied with this coming off of my bench. The outside is stellar, too, except for the keyway on the 3PDT being placed the objectively wrong way around. Sort that shit out.

Jokes aside, I'm an OD nut, too, and now want to give this a shot.

If you're into vero and like the Marshall-ampy pedals, do yourself a solid and build the TagboardEffects layout of the Menatone Pig.

Full disclosure: I'm biased toward Menatone circuits. That dude was putting out awesome circuits while I was playing for drunk students in the '90s... while I was a drunk student in the '90s.

Spraymax 2k gloss

When you've put a board together like that, you bring out the big guns.

Thanks for the message. I appreciate you very much. I certainly got better at the hobby by looking at some of your point of point. You’ve inspired me. I don’t think I’m ready to tackle one yet, but I definitely have it on a bucket list.

You're too kind. Simple circuits are simple to point-to-point. Whenever you get in the mood to try it, I have no doubt you'll be successful.

My first one was Anderton's simple little power-filter project. I don't think I ever posted it, but it gave me the confidence to do a few that are slightly more involved.

I know that you already know, but @comradehoser is way, way, way beyond what I do. And he's the one who made me believe it was at least worth attempting. My stuff is child's play next to his.

I too have seen the comradehoser's p2p prowess. I would like to commission a pedal from them. I am still doing my wiring like a Stewmac kit.

Whoa! My ears are burning!

What do I want to say about this? Thank you very much for the compliments, but I really don't see my PTP efforts as an example of something particularly skillful. I definitely celebrate those of you that attempt and surpass whatever futzings I come up with. I want to (and do, actually--thanks @GizzWizzKing ! ) learn from the community of folks PTPing it up in here. I'm just a co-learner with y'alls.

Every layout is different and there is a big aesthetic component to PTP--and when it comes to that, it's really personal expression. If the circuit is functional, who am I to say one is better than another? Maybe I tackle more complex circuits (because I'm dumb), but there's also a virtue in simplicity. And some people are able to put down some beautifully clean lines that I can only aspire to. Like, I really wish @Erik S would get on with a PTP attempt because I am 100% certain it would blow minds. I would put @Guilherme Collateral and @genXslacker's latest PTP projects in this camp. GizzWizzKing is my buddy in the "organic lines" camp, but his projects are equally rocking.

So, PM me if you want about commissions--personally I'm not sure I'm at that level yet--but like I said, I am more stoked about builders giving it a shot themselves, and I'm very happy to assist in any way. It's different and definitely rewarding in a different way than regular circuit building, if only for the spatial puzzle sculpture aspect. I feel way more proud of my PTP circuits (even my early rat's nest jobbies) than any of my PCB builds because it's more of a creative process-- there's a little bit of you in every box.

Next thing I'm building is Chuck's Tube Bender Deluxe. It's in breadboard ready to go, but sounds really good. As with all Chuck D. Bones circuits. Can we get the man a pedal company, already!

Let me think of which circuit. Perhaps one with two switches three op amps and two footswitches. lol I like the problem solving that you do to make one. I have to get breadboarding before I can tackle one.

I saw a company that sells clear lucite back covers for P2P. I think that is a must.

hahaha I like the surprise of the regular enclosure. Painting the inside is kinda nice, though
