Finally got around to building this one. It definitely does the Eric Johnson thing. Has tons of gain. I can’t imagine Lovepedal selling these with BC108 and BC183 or other higher gain transistors but he does. Mine picks up a little radio interference at times. These are just my first impressions of very short playing time. Worth the build!

That's part of the soft clipping so I bet it will change the flavor a bit once you pop it in there

I’d actually enjoyed jamming with it last night before noticing it too. I thought it was lacking on the zendrive part though I would’ve never known it if I wouldn’t have looked at this picture as I’d already biased it and everything.

Think I’m gonna have to pull that 100n cap as it is quite noisy. Thankfully I socketed it.

I just finished the Madbean equivalent of the Dover Drive, the Cliffhanger24. Interestingly they also recommend either 2N3906 (speced in yours as well) or the lower gain option 2N3644 for the PNPs. I’ve built the Grover and remember loving it, and should A/B with the Madbean to see if they’re identical.

I’d like to try the Madbean. I added the other 2N7000 last night that I missed and pulled the 100N cap, C11 maybe, and it has significantly less gain and noise. At first I was picking up radio frequencies and it was noisy as hell. I may put just the 100n cap back in and see how it reacts.
