I like it. It is a great little overdrive/distortion with the ability to get everything from subtle boost or transparent overdrive to dirt. I messed with it a while and decided it is good. It is relatively transparent and amp like, but when you start turning the drive the circuit transitions into a thick saturated distortion. If you work that presence knob you can make it dark, or give it shimmer. At full clockwise on the dials it gets textured fuzz.

I used a Tayda 1590b in pastel green. From there I distressed the case slightly, then added the waterslide decal and several coats of Spraymax 2k clear. The MXR style side jacks are enclosed, and the D.C. jack is Lumberg. I used the PPCB LED breakout board for the footswitch. I moved the footswitch higher so that it could be positioned for the decal. The LED is a 3mm red diffused in a freznel. I used some reflector top black knobs. The build documents call for a B22k potentiometer... I just tested all of my B20k until I found one that is 22.8k.

I have built one of these before and will likely build another because it is good. Definitely build one if you like any of the overdrive or distortion variants.

Notes

1. B22k potentiometer does not exist (I think) so use your multimeter with your B20k pots to get close
2. You need an A50k and a C50k potentiometer
3. You need the LM741 op-amp
4. You need an 8v2 Zener diode for this build
5. This all fits easily in a 1590b, but you will need the short electrolytic capacitors. PPCB has them.

It sounds absolutely magnificent. I always start on a Vibroverb to hear it on the 15". When I go to the Super Reverb the circuit has more sparkle and clarity. If you dial down the presence it gets darker but not muddy. If you roll off the Drive it delivers amp-like boost/overdrive. I love the versatility in this circuit.

IMO this is a circuit that would please many players in different genres

Nice build as always. I tried to like this quite a few times, and I could never make it sound good. Which I found surprising, because I like both the Rat and the DS-1 with diode-less opamp clipping. I’ll try it again though, I’ve been surprised before with how many tries it takes before I like a pedal. Maybe I should service my AC15 and give that a try.

Thanks! Interesting. I guess I like when I can get some different sounds out of the overdrive. This circuit is like a BB, a boost, a Lightspeed and a plexi. I can get some great creamy saturation with this circuit.
